[Bug 1903813] [NEW] Canon pixma TS6151 scanner stopped working suddenly.
Public bug reported: While executing scangearmp2 reports "Cannot find available scanners", then it fails when "Update Scanner List". However I can print documents normally. This always worked for me using wifi. I tried sudo apt-get purge scangearmp2 and installing from fresh. Firstly, using the package cnijfilter2-5.50-1-deb, which reports "Could not detect the target printer", but Ubuntu reports a window "Printer added Canon Ts_6151". After that, installing scangearmp2-3.50-1-deb, also fails. The printer/scanner is working normally from another laptop with windows 10. [Bug 1903745] Re: upgrade from 1.1.14-2ubuntu1.8 to 1.1.14-2ubuntu1.9 breaks clusters
Big problem with corosync and pacemaker packages is that they don't put resources into unmanaged state before upgrade. Hitting an issue like this is also tightly related to configuration of the pacemaker/corosync. Upgrading corosync, without stopping pacemaker (and therefore lrmd) has high probability to result with this behaviour. In the end, corosync is only a messaging bus. So the upgrade procedure should really be: 1) put pacemaker's resource into unmanaged mode 2) stop pacemaker 3) upgrade corosync 4) restart corosync 5) start pacemaker 6) put resources into managed mode Steps 3 & 4 are automatically done by corosync upgrade package, but all other steps are left to the operator. If upgrade is done by unattended upgrades, this will quite likely happen again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903745 Title: upgrade from 1.1.14-2ubuntu1.8 to 1.1.14-2ubuntu1.9 breaks clusters To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pacemaker/+bug/1903745/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1903808] [NEW] GSettings like mouse acceleration are not restored after suspend
Public bug reported: I have customised some options like mouse acceleration and compose keys using gsettings. # Disable mouse acceleration gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse accel-profile flat gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse speed 0 # Enable Compose key gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options "['compose:caps']" After around end of August, those settings were not active anymore after suspending. [Bug 1903805] [NEW] Thunderbird snap keeps asking to be the default email client
Public bug reported: Thunderbird snap 78.4.1 2020-11-09 (93) running on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS The latest version keeps asking at every start whether I want to "Use Thunderbird as the default client". I do. So I keep "Email" and "Always perform this check when starting Thunderbird" checked and click "Set as Default". When I quit and restart Thunderbird I'm prompted the same question again. I would expect Thunderbird to set itself as default and no longer ask this question. Instead, Thunderbird either fails to set itself as default or it asks the question despite being the default (not sure how to distinguish). ** Affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903805 Title: Thunderbird snap keeps asking to be the default email client To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1903805/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1903745] Re: upgrade from 1.1.14-2ubuntu1.8 to 1.1.14-2ubuntu1.9 breaks clusters
I reviewed the sosreports and provide some general analysis below. [sosreport-juju-machine-2-lxc-1-2020-11-10-tayyude] I don't see any sign in this log of package upgrades or VIP stop/starts, I suspect this host may be unrelated. [sosreport-juju-caae6f-19-lxd-6-20201110230352.tar.xz] This is a charm-keystone node Looking at this sosreport my general finding is that everything worked correctly on this specific host. unattended-upgrades.log: We can see the upgrade starts at 2020-11-10 06:17:03 and finishes at "2020-11-10 06:17:48" syslog.1: Nov 10 06:17:41 juju-caae6f-19-lxd-6 crmd[41203]: notice: Result of probe operation for res_ks_680cfdf_vip on juju-caae6f-19-lxd-6: 7 (not running) Nov 10 06:19:44 juju-caae6f-19-lxd-6 crmd[41203]: notice: Result of start operation for res_ks_680cfdf_vip on juju-caae6f-19-lxd-6: 0 (ok) We also see that the VIP moved around to different hosts a few times, likely as a result of each host successively upgrading. Which makes sense. I don't see any sign in this log of the mentioned lrmd issue. [mysql issue] What we do see however is issues with "Too many connections" from MySQL in the keystone logs. This generally happens because when the VIP moves from one host to another, all the old connections are left behind and just go stale (because the VIP was removed, the traffic for these connections just disappears and is sent to the new VIP owner which doens't have those TCP connections) and sit there until wait_timeout is reached (typically either 180s/3 min or 3600s/1 hour in our deployments) as the node will never get the TCP reset when the remote end sends it. The problem happens when it fails *back* to a host it already failed away from, now many of the connection slots are still used by the stale connections and you run our of connections if your max_connections limit is not at least double your normal connection count. This problem will eventually self resolve once the connections timeout but may take an hour. Note that this sosreport is from a keystone node that *also* has charm- hacluster/corosync/pacemaker but the above discussed mysql issue would have occurred on the percona mysql nodes. To analyse the number of failovers we would need to get sosreports from the mysql node(s). [summary] I think we have likely 2 potential issues here from what I can see described so far. Firstly the networkd issue is likely not related to this specific case, as that happens specifically when systemd is upgraded and thus networkd is restarted, that shouldn't have happened here. (Issue 1) The first is that we hit max_connections due to the multiple successive MySQL VIP failovers where max_connections is not at least 2x the steady state connection count. It also seems possible in some cases the VIP may shift back to the same host a 3rd time by chance and you may end up needing 3x. I think we could potentially improve that by modifying the pacemaker resource scripts to kill active connections when the VIP departs, or, ensuring that you have 2-3x max_connections of the steady state active connection count. That should go into a new bug likely against charm-percona-cluster as it ships it's own resource agent. We could also potentially add a configurable nagios check for having active connections in excess of 50% of max_connections. (Issue 2) It was described that pacemaker got into a bad state during the restart and the lrmd didn't exit, and didn't work correctly until it was manually killed and restarted. I think we need to get more logs/sosreports from the nodes that had that specific issue, it sounds like something that may be a bug specific to a certain scenario or perhaps the older xenial version [This USN-4623-1 update happened for all LTS releases, 16.04/18.04/20.04].

[Bug 1888810] Re: MATE desktop in Ubuntu 20.04 screen tearing with modeset driver
Looking deeper at this bug I just noticed the issue is triggered by using a fake screen resolution: 1912x1080_60.00 (0x48) 171.250MHz -HSync +VSync *current +preferred It should be 1920x1080 (https://support.hp.com/au- en/document/c05033206#AbT3). While Xorg lets you create any resolution of your choice, doing so will result in indirect rendering, which will result in tearing with the modeset driver. So this bug seems like user error... [Bug 1903793] [NEW] rng-tools: should become a transitional package, like in Debian, but to rng-tools5
Public bug reported: In Debian, I just made rng-tools a transitional package to fix the bad situation between rng-tools, rng-tools-debian and rng-tools5: https://packages.qa.debian.org/r/rng-tools/news/2020T024143Z.html It is clear that, past the next release (that is, in bookworm) there will be only rng-tools-debian (2.x) and rng-tools5 (6.x at least, by then). Ubuntu should track both rng-tools-debian and rng-tools5 from Debian. I’ll remove rng-tools between bullseye and bookworm (and Ubuntu currently does not track rng-tools from Debian anyway). The rng-tools package itself is more tricky. It is what users coming from older releases will have installed. In Debian, it always was version 2.x, so I transitioned it to rng-tools-debian. In Ubuntu, however, rng-tools 5.x was shipped for multiple releases, so it should become a transitional package towards there, and eventually (after the next LTS released with that change) entirely removed. Anything of worth currently in Ubuntu’s version of rng-tools should be forwarded to Debian’s rng-tools5 package and merged there, so it can be just Sync’d into Ubuntu. ** Affects: rng-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: rng-tools5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: rng-tools5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903793 Title: rng-tools: should become a transitional package, like in Debian, but to rng-tools5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rng-tools/+bug/1903793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1903793] Re: rng-tools: should become a transitional package, like in Debian, but to rng-tools5
Background on why rng-tools-debian exists: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rng-tools/+bug/1333293 Basically, Debian carried massive delta against upstream for years which was never merged but which is so crucial many users rely on it, and upstream’s version comes nowhere near its functionality. If one doesn’t need these features (or has a modern/high-bitrate HWRNG) one’s better with upstream’s 5.x/6.x version, otherwise one must use rng-tools-debian instead. This “castling move” was recommended to me in that bugreport linked. tl;dr: Yes, we do need both. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903793 Title: rng-tools: should become a transitional package, like in Debian, but to rng-tools5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rng-tools/+bug/1903793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1903388] Re: Failure to write to NVMe disk soon after boot (APST-related)
Another update regarding the the system slowdown. It seems it was caused by starting "Ubuntu on Wayland" from the main screen. (had to do so previously to be able to login). [Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
Decided to do more trial and error tests. I tried multiple amd64 kerels from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ It seems that all kernels I tried produce metallic audio, I believe you can easily reproduce this by trying them. Even the 5.4.52-050452.202007160732 kernel produced metallic sound, while the official Mint 5.4.0-52 kernel produces clean audio. Official Mint kernel 5.8.0-28 also produces clean audio. [Bug 1903788] [NEW] pidgin-libnotify removed, but no alternative provided in Ubuntu 20.04
Public bug reported: pidgin-libnotify was removed in Ubuntu 20.04 https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=pidgin-libnotify Users are advised to install the package compiled for Ubuntu 18.04 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1232938/pidgin-missing-libnotify-plugin-on-ubuntu-20-04 As far as I can tell, no plugins with equivalent functionality are packaged for Ubuntu 20.04. One possible replacement is purple-libnotify-plus: https://github.com/sardemff7/purple-libnotify-plus/ Please note that pidgin-libnotify is not just about notifications, it allows Pidgin to be run in background. That's a significant feature missing from Ubuntu 20.04. Without pidgin-libnotify installed, pidgin exists when its last window is closed. With pidgin-libnotify installed and enabled under Tools->Plugins, pidgin remains in memory when its last window is closed as evidenced by "ps x | grep pidgin" I'm using up-to-date Ubuntu 20.04.1 with pidgin 1:2.13.0-2.2ubuntu4 and pidgin-plugin-pack 2.7.0-4. ** Affects: pidgin-libnotify (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903788 Title: pidgin-libnotify removed, but no alternative provided in Ubuntu 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin-libnotify/+bug/1903788/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
