[Bug 1912844] Re: Bond with OVS bridging RuntimeError: duplicate mac found!
Those subprocess calls do indeed add up to be expensive quite quickly, and when I think of it it may actually not be a consistent way of determining if a interface belongs to Open vSwitch in all its configurations. Open vSwitch supports multiple datapath types, and depending on which one you use the interface may or may not be owned by the openvswitch driver. However, this brings me to something we might use as a consistent cross- distro way of determining whether Open vSwitch is there and has bridges configured. When Open vSwitch registers a datapath it also creates a virtual port for it, and we could possibly look for that to determine whether Open vSwitch is installed and actually has useful configuration. The 'system' datapath is the kernel datapath as provided by the openvswitch kernel module, the 'netdev' datapath is used for alternative datapaths such as the Open vSwitch userspace implementation, DPDK, AF_XDP etc. Example: # ovs-vsctl show 5ef28194-7376-40f6-9306-1a21b0624079 Bridge br1 datapath_type: system Port br1 Interface br1 type: internal Bridge br0 datapath_type: netdev Port br0 Interface br0 type: internal ovs_version: "2.13.1" # ls -l /sys/class/net/ovs-* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 4 05:33 /sys/class/net/ovs-netdev -> ../../devices/virtual/net/ovs-netdev lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 4 06:06 /sys/class/net/ovs-system -> ../../devices/virtual/net/ovs-system -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912844 Title: Bond with OVS bridging RuntimeError: duplicate mac found! [Bug 1912264] Re: Provide grub 2.04 EFI backport on bionic
grub2.04-signed in bionic must be compatible with grub-common as shipped in bionic. grub2-signed 1.142.10 in focal calls /usr/share/grub/grub-check- signatures & /usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install scripts, which are shipped by grub-common in focal, and not available in bionic. thus grub2.04-signed in bionic cannot use the same postinst as grub2-signed in focal. the origin of the grub2.04-signed is closer to shim-signed bionic postinst, specifically the sanity checks and calling grub-install, for both arm64 & amd64. But not doing any calls to update-secureboot-policy. ps Looking closer at grub2-signed 1.142.10 in focal, it only provides a postinst for amd64 and doesn't provide one for arm64 which is an oversight. ** Changed in: grub2.04-signed (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: Incomplete => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912264 Title: Provide grub 2.04 EFI backport on bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2.04-signed/+bug/1912264/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914374] Re: Multiple issues on HP ZBook 15 G7 after installing 20.04.2 image
Ok, just did a quick sanity test of the new ubiquity (20.04.15.7) and ubuntu-drivers-common (1:0.8.6.5~0.20.04.1). I have booted up the last .2 RC, downloaded xnox's ubuntu-drivers mock wrapper, installed its dependencies (via universe), upgraded ubiquity and ubuntu-drivers-common and then started the installation. The installation finished with success. I then checked the syslog to see if the right kernel and nvidia drivers combination has been used - all good: oem kernel, no hwe kernel installed, oem nvidia drivers. I also checked if any -edge kernel packages have been selected by mistake - there were none. I think this is enough of a validation that the packages are sane at least. Let's get it migrated to -updates and then test some more on the RC images. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-focal ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914374 Title: Multiple issues on HP ZBook 15 G7 after installing 20.04.2 image To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1914374/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Christian, Attaching the debdiffs with no change rebuilds. - samba is the most important, since it also fixes an autopkgtest failure to unblock liburing in hirsute-proposed. - mpd also has autopkgtests, but there's still a version in -proposed as of now, so maybe it needs to wait (but since it's a no change rebuild, maybe it can be overriden if needed?) - plocate has no autopkgtests, lower priority. - qemu neither, and is up to you depending on your qemu upload, per our discussion. [Bug 1914283] Re: Enable CONFIG_PCI_MSI in the linux-kvm derivative
** Description changed: - To be filled - I'm just reserving the LP number for now. + [Impact] + * Currently linux-kvm derivative doesn't have CONFIG_PCI_MSI (and its dependency options) enabled. The goal for such derivative is to be minimal and boot as fast as possible in virtual environments, hence most config options were dropped. + + * Happens that MSI/MSI-X are the de facto drivers' standard with regards + to interrupts, and as such the hot path is optimized for MSIs. Boot + testing with that config enabled showed that we have improvements in + boot time (details in next section). + + * Also, performance-wise MSIs are a good idea too, since it usually + allows multiple queues in network devices and KVM is more optimized to + MSIs in comparison with regular IRQs - tests (detailed in next section) + showed performance improvements in virtio devices with MSIs. + + * Based on that findings, we are hereby enabling MSIs for the linux-kvm + derivatives in all series (Bionic / Focal / Groovy / Hirsute) - notice + that Xenial already has that config option enabled. + + [Test Case] + * All below tests were performed in a x86-64 KVM guest with 2 VCPUs and 2GB of RAM, running in a Focal host. Three runs of each test were performed, and we took the average. + + * Boot time test (measured by dmesg timestamp) showed an improvement of ~21%, the following chart exhibiting the data: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~gpiccoli/MSI/boot_time.svg + We also timed the full boot until the login prompt is available, we had a decrease from ~1 second. + + * The storage test was performed with the fio tool, using a virtio-blk empty disk. The following arguments were used: + fio --filename /dev/vdc --rw=rw --runtime 600 --loops 100 --ioengine libaio --numjobs 2 --group_reporting + + On average we had a ~4.5% speedup in both reads and writes, the + following chart represents the data: + https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~gpiccoli/MSI/fio_storage.svg + + * From the network perspective, we've used iPerf with the following + arguments: iperf -c -t 300 (server was the host machine). On + average, the performance improvement was ~8%, as per the following + chart: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~gpiccoli/MSI/iperf_network.svg + + [Where problems could occur] + * Given that the main linux package (generic) and basically all other derivatives already enable this option, and given that MSIs are the standard with regards to interrupts from drivers point-of-view, it's safe to say the risks are minimal, likely smaller than not enabling MSIs (since the hot path is usually more tested/exercised). + + * That said, problems could occur if we have bugs in MSI-related code in + drivers or in PCI MSI core code, then those potential problems that + would already affect all other derivatives begin to affect linux-kvm + with this change. ** Changed in: linux-kvm (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: In Progress => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914283 Title: Enable CONFIG_PCI_MSI in the linux-kvm derivative To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-kvm/+bug/1914283/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1896443] Re: The latest Ubuntu base image for armhf return random values for date/time
Hi, Thanks for the link about libseccomp. After reading that link and a couple of bugs on Github about this it seems the root cause is due to containers of newer releases (e.g. 20.04), which make syscalls that hosts with older software might not know about. To resolve then, users need to: 1) Use Docker version 19.03.9 or newer 2) Ensure the host has libseccomp version of 2.4.2 or higher. libseccomp is already 2.4.3 in all supported versions of Ubuntu and appears to have the newer syscalls listed. I am marking this as invalid for the "cloud-images" project as it is clear this is not an Ubuntu docker image issue. ** Changed in: cloud-images Status: Incomplete => Invalid ** Also affects: docker.io (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896443 Title: The latest Ubuntu base image for armhf return random values for date/time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1896443/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1899132] Re: complete freeze with focal 20.04
** Description changed: Hi, my notebook Dell G3 3590 has xubuntu 20.04 installed. The notebook is freezing randomly at boot, with the boot logo. At lock screen or a few minutes after login. Tested with nouveau driver and the nvidia driver (450, tested) from the software & updates panel. Logs are captured after a system freeze.
