I had confused the upstream tracker with the Ubuntu tracker for Calibre, since both live in Launchpad, but now that I've seen the downstream report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/1898904 it seems like if this started happening recently (I vaguely remember this was working a few months ago in focal), so maybe it's a recently updated dependency (or an update of calibre itself, but why) that broken the package. ** Description changed: Please sync calibre 5.3.0+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) - See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/1898904 Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has shipped a beta version of calibre that is unable to even start. + + Upstream report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/calibre/+bug/1877180 + + Downstream report: + https//bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/1898904 + There has been a fix for five months now. [Bug 1900334] Re: [snap] Mouse pointer theme and scaling not honoured for cursor themes not included in gtk-common-themes
The Spotify snap has always shown a tiny mouse pointer in HiDPI screens. [Bug 1901236] Re: Getting notifications twice
Well, according to the XDG spec you can disable autostarting at the user level in a way that won't be overwritten by future updated: > If an application autostarts by having a .desktop file installed in the system wide autostart directory, an individual user can disable the autotomatic start of this application by placing a .desktop file of the same name in its personal autostart directory which contains the key Hidden=true. [Bug 1897853] Re: [regression] gnome-shell stutters noticeably with kernel 5.8.0-19, but not 5.8.0-18
FWIW today 3.38 was released to Arch stable repo and I tested it using kernel 5.8.10 and 5.8.13. For the same governor, energy performance and gpu min freq settings, stuttering in the overview has increased a bit (HiDPI screen & 620, I think you already know that at this point). Anyway I've seen many fluctuations since 3.34 when using different kernels so it doesn't surprise me, seems like subtle timing issues that probably won't be 100% fixed by freq scaling alone but also by the additional buffering provided by !1441. [Bug 1874916] [NEW] whatsapp doesn't recognize chromium snap user agent
Public bug reported: At some time there was the issue of Whatsapp not recognizing the user agent of Chromium, which was closed because it was the understanding that the problem should be fixed by Whatsapp and not Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium- browser/+bug/1808853?comments=all I agree with the rationale there, but later Whatsapp seems to indeed have fixed that, at least according to Olivier Tilloy: > It looks like whatsapp fixed the user agent detection for the chromium ubuntu packages, this is now working fine. However it's still refusing to work with the chromium snap package. [Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled
Further investigation shows that using linux-5.5 (from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.5/) has a very positive impact on performance and gnome-session/Wayland becomes comparable with Arch and Fedora. At least this points to a definite cause, but it's somewhat of a sad outcome since LTS comes with 5.4. @vanvugt, do you think I should open a new ticket more specifically focused in the overview animation? [Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled
I've been doing some testing and disabling panel self refresh (PSR) on the Intel driver seems to help quite a lot with frame dropping in X11, this is a known fact for the Matebook Pro, at least for Windows. [Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled
I'm experiencing this also but it's much worse than reported above, in all of these environments performance is behind 19.10/3.34: * gnome-session / X11 * gnome-session / Wayland * ubuntu-desktop / X11 * ubuntu-desktop / Wayland ubuntu-desktop / X11 is by far the worst combination, but in all others I'm able to see windows in the overview enlarging "inch by inch" with noticeable frame dropping and stuttering. Moreover, I've tested this in Fedora 32 and up-to-date Arch. Performance in Wayland is great in both systems (but, again, there is regression in X11, which has always been bad for me anyway, it's just worse now). I've a Huawei Matebook X Pro, with Intel 620 and an NVIDIA gpu. Performance is bad using any of the graphics cards. [Bug 1848895] [NEW] Video recorder uses up to GBs of memory in a few seconds

It is no exaggeration to say that the problem makes the video recorder unusable. In barely two or three seconds the shell becomes slow and barely responsive, memory usage easily scales up to 3 or 4 GB and never goes down except by restarting the shell [1]. Hi Sebastien: * Ubuntu 19.04 * Session: ubuntu desktop (quite pure, the dock in the screenshot has just been made to shrink but it's still the builtin one). [Bug 1832940] [NEW] Consider making the shift action iterate windows by default
Public bug reported: Currently the shift action is set to launch a new application, exactly the same than the control action. If there is more than one window for an app (say in position 1), then super+1 will open a preview to switch between them, which is nice but has some shortcomings: 1) It's not a particularly fast shortcut, it requires moving between the previews and pressing Enter to pick one. 2) It's a bit quirky when auto-hide is enabled (the previews are relocated after the dock hides itself again). 3) The previews are fine but a bit small. Now, there is another way to achieve iteration which is to use the configurable shift modifier for that. Currently it's mapped to the same action than control, that is, launch a new instance of the app. Wouldn't it be more useful if you instead mapped it to iteration between app windows? Since Ubuntu is not exposing settings for this, it seems to me that as a "hard" default aliasing the shift and the control behaviors is a waste. ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832940 Title: Consider making the shift action iterate windows by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock/+bug/1832940/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In the first one, icons are too small, I have to change: this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 6); to this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 12); OTOH, icons are a little too big in the second setting and I have to do: this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 2); Icons directly managed by gnome shell are not sized according to PANEL_ICON_SIZE, see: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/blob/master/js/ui/panelMenu.js Short of a smarter way of computing icons size, you could provide a setting to adjust it so that the user could fine tune it if necessary without hacking the code. ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-appindicator (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Size is not right with hidpi (both 2x and fractional scaling) + Size is not right with hidpi (both 2x and 1x with font scaling) ** Description changed: I've tried this in two different hidpi monitors with different scaling configurations: 1) A 1920x1080 screen with scale factor 1x and font scale factor 1.25. - + 2) A 3000x2000 screen with scale factor 2x. - In the first one, icons are too small, I have to change: -this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, + this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 6); to -this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, + this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 12); OTOH, icons are a little too big in the second setting and I have to do: -this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, + this._iconBox = new AppIndicator.IconActor(indicator, Panel.PANEL_ICON_SIZE + 2); + Icons directly managed by gnome shell are not sized according to + PANEL_ICON_SIZE, see: - Icons directly managed by gnome shell are not sized according to PANEL_ICON_SIZE, see: - -https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/blob/master/js/ui/panelMenu.js Short of a smarter way of computing icons size, you could provide a - setting to adjust it. + setting to adjust it so that the user could fine tune it if necessary + without hacking the code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832793 Title: Size is not right with hidpi (both 2x and 1x with font scaling) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-appindicator/+bug/1832793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1831161] Re: App-switcher icons too small with hidpi monitor and 1.25 scaling
I've changed `baseIconSizes` from the looking glass and I get bigger icons. This doesn't seem to be hard to fix really. Maybe the size restriction should be checked *before* scaling up 2x. Maybe bigger icons should be allowed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1831161 Title: App-switcher icons too small with hidpi monitor and 1.25 scaling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1831161/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1832792] [NEW] App-switcher icons too small with hidpi (3000x2000) monitor
Public bug reported: I've reported this upstream (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/issues/1370), but given that this is an important part of the Ubuntu desktop and that you're providing some patches for improving the X11 experience with hidpi monitors, I'm notifying about the issue here too. It could be related to my previous similar report for fractional scaling resolutions: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- shell/+bug/1831161. But I'm not sure. Besides, fractional scaling is an experimental feature while 2x is not. ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - App-switcher icons too small with hidpi monitor + App-switcher icons too small (48x48) with hidpi monitor ** Summary changed: - App-switcher icons too small (48x48) with hidpi monitor + App-switcher icons too small (48x48) with hidpi (3000x2000) monitor ** Summary changed: - App-switcher icons too small (48x48) with hidpi (3000x2000) monitor + App-switcher icons too small with hidpi (3000x2000) monitor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832792 Title: App-switcher icons too small with hidpi (3000x2000) monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1832792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1832137] Re: The default shell theme is titled Default instead of its real name 'Yaru' or 'Adwaita'
Just to make it crystal clear. I now enter my Ubuntu session, go to Tweaks and get this shell themes list: (1) Default Materia Materia-compact Materia-dark Materia-dark-compact Materia-light Materia-light-compact Nevertheless, Adwaita shell theme IS installed in my computer. Hence I would like to see: (2) Default Adwaita <--- Materia Materia-compact Materia-dark Materia-dark-compact Materia-light Materia-light-compact If, instead, I enter my vanilla Gnome session I again get (1) above but I would like to see: (3) Default Materia Materia-compact Materia-dark Materia-dark-compact Materia-light Materia-light-compact Yaru <- Now, creating the symlinks I proposed, I won't get (2) and (3) but the quite similar (4): (4) Default Adwaita < Materia Materia-compact Materia-dark Materia-dark-compact Materia-light Materia-light-compact Yaru <--- Under both types of session there would be redundancy, since sometimes Default means Adwaita and sometimes it means Yaru, but I see that as a lesser problem than being unable to select "the other" theme. Finally, a minimal proposal is to create just one of the symlinks to get Yaru into the list but not Adwaita, so only yaru-theme has to be patched. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832137 Title: The default shell theme is titled Default instead of its real name 'Yaru' or 'Adwaita' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1832137/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1832137] Re: The default shell theme is titled Default instead of its real name 'Yaru' or 'Adwaita'
Oh, I now see why I was not following you. I don't think the "Default" name to be a problem, quite to the contrary. What I don't like is the inability to select the other (the non-default) theme. Even if you renamed Default to Yaru, that won't make Adwaita appear. And if in a vanilla session you renamed Default to Adwaita, that won't make Yaru appear either. The only way for a shell theme to appear in Tweaks with a name that is not "Default" is to be listed under /usr/share/themes//gnome-shell (OTOH, to be "Default" it has to live under /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme). What I did point out is that by linking "the other theme" from /usr/share/themes you would get two entries for the same theme, the Default one and the Yaru/Adwaita one. Now, if you wanted to remove Default and at the same time introduce Yaru and Adwaita, I think that would be more difficult to achieve that my simple fix. But, in any case, now the description is not accurate to me :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832137 Title: The default shell theme is titled Default instead of its real name 'Yaru' or 'Adwaita' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1832137/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1832137] Re: Switch Adwaita/Yaru shell themes under vanilla/ubuntu gnome sessions
Thanks for you careful considerations, Daniel. > Because you say "there is no way to pick the other shell theme" which is simply untrue. I'm not quite following you here, what I mean is that when you are in Yaru shell theme you can't pick Adwaita shell theme (that is, the other theme in the "Adwaita/Yaru" pair mentioned in the subject) and viceversa. Please feel free to reword it in the way you believe will cause less confusion because I'm sincerely not understanding. > It's less confusing for them to refer to the default theme as just "Default". Don't forget that there still would be a Default entry. Under Ubuntu you would get: Default (meaning Yaru) ... Adwaita Yaru Under vanilla: Default (meaning Adwaita) ... Adwaita Yaru Although my minimal proposal was to implement only the second case, because: 1) Users opting for vanilla desktop are probably less prone to confusion here. 2) They will be unable to use Yaru, which I consider worse than Ubuntu session users unable to use Adwaita. In fact, I want to use a vanilla session but I like Yaru and would like to achieve widget/shell consistency. It's a bit ridiculous being unable to use Yaru in Ubuntu :) 3) You only have to patch a package. Better, the less "upstreamy" one, yaru-theme. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832137 Title: Switch Adwaita/Yaru shell themes under vanilla/ubuntu gnome sessions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1832137/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
