[Bug 655124] Re: Network-manager-openvpn connects but can not be used
I know this is late - but just for clarity this is still not working 100% in Maverick. The fix as mentioned above in disparate places is easy, and I summarise: 1-Go into "Edit connections" and highlight your VPN connection. 2-"VPN Tab", "Advanced" and set "Use LZO compression" to on. 3-"OK" 4-"Ipv4 Settings" Tab, "Routes" and check "Use this connection only for resources on it's network" You should now be good to go. This took me 2 days trying to fix things server side before I checked it on a Windows box and discovered the server was 100%. DOH!!! It would be good if this worked out of the box as many people are stuck on 10.10 until Unity settles down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655124 Title: Network-manager-openvpn connects but can not be used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/655124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 752378] Re: Orca causes OpenOffice / LibreOffice Java to crash
Yes, libaccess-bridge-java is installed (it was installed all the time) so this is not the problem. I did a fresh re-install of Ubuntu 10.10 and the problem still persists. I have attached the document in question for testing. (I have briefly tested other docs with similar results) I checked the document on a Fedora 14 install and the problem does not exist in that environment. The only difference is that I am using Metacity for compositing in Fedora and Compiz in Ubuntu. (In case you are wondering why I bother with compositing - I am setting up Orca as part of an adult literacy program, so it is not being used only for visual impairment) Turning off Compiz in Ubuntu (ie. no compositing at all) makes a small difference - I can select an image once or twice before Writer crashes. With Compiz on it will crash immediately when an image is selected. In case it matters - I have Gnome Panels turned off as well and Avant Window Navigator used as the panel manager. I will test Fedora/Compiz in a while and report back. [Bug 502991] Re: Tam Tam Mini does not start
Hi, this is effecting me as well on Ubuntu-Sugar-Remix 32bit. I am not technical (but understand the basics behind a linux system), and am trying to set up a portable sugar network for a local community group. I am using Mint 10 as this is the easiest for a portable USB drive over diverse hardware (wireless drivers etc). I am using USB sticks with persistence. Everything works well, except for the Tam Tam suite, as this bug is describing. [Bug 721805] [NEW] 'Start AWN automatically' causes Ubuntu theme to be dropped
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator The automatic start function from the AWN options behaves erratically. On occasion the Ubuntu theme (Ambiance in my instance) flickers on for about half a second, but is then replaced by the default Gnome theme. Activating the theme preference window restores the Ubuntu theme in AWN and the panels - but not in Nautilus (and some other apps I suspect) This was happening at every few boots, but became permanent on my netbook for which I alternate display to my Plasma TV. I resolved the issue by unticking the 'Start AWN automatically' button and enabled AWN via my start-up application list. [Bug 711906] [NEW] Sound broken in kernel 2.6.35-25 after routine updates
Public bug reported: My sound was perfect until about an hour ago after I ran the regular system update. All sound was dead even though all volumes were turned up and alsamixer reported all channels turned up. I don't think a kernel update was included, but I was not watching very carefully. Sound works when I boot off 2.6.32-27. I resolved the problem by enabling the ubuntu-audio-dev ppa: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa sudo apt-get update and installing: sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) This is not ideal because the default repository packaging is breaking the sound. [Bug 635067] [NEW] Global menu does not remember position of user launchers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I have added a few custom launchers to the global menu and dragged them below the system launchers. I have done this because the position I associate system launchers with is at the Ubuntu logo. After restart, my user icons are persistently moved back to the top, between the Ubuntu logo and the system launchers. If this is intentional, I feel it is incorrect as it locks a preset on a highly user configurable area. [Bug 635033] [NEW] Adding launcher to Global Menu is not intuative
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity The only way I can find to add an app launcher to the global menu is to launch the app, grab it's global icon, drag it out of the menu area and then drop it at a new location in the global menu. For me, this was the last option to try and took me about 25minutes to figure out. It consists of stringing together 4 different cognitive UI actions. My intuitions, in order, were: -Right click on empty space in menu and expect 'add application' dialogue followed by a handy list -Browse for app in aplication menu and drag it to the gobal menu -Browse for app in application menu, right click on it and select 'add to global menu' -Open app and right click on it's Global icon followed by menu item offering to 'add this to menu' I admit that I may be tainted by my experience with various other UI's, but feel that it is a bug that the Unity global menu has only one (and in my opinion) complicate methodology for what is probably one of the first things a new user will try and do. The issue is regarding consistency of presentation and workflow in Unity. To illustrate: A new, regular user, accessing their mail for the first time clicks on the envelope in the top panel and is presented with the evolution account assistant. - this is not a bug in itself. A new, regular user, accessing their mail for the first time clicks on the envelope in the Unity Global Menu and is presented with a different account assistant. - this is also not a bug in itself, but it is two separate workflows which will have to be documented and explained to users twice, not to mention the confusion when trying to assist somebody remotely. Thanks Omer and Mark. Please let me know if there is a better place to file and discuss this. Right clicking on the 'applications' icon brings up only a limited menu which varies in scope. If clicked when an app with a white background is open, the options are invisvible (see screenshots) This workflow is not obvious (especially when you are used to associating access to your applications and settings with the Ubuntu logo). In my case, due to my bug report #633094, this icon was off the screen with no obvious identity as a system function. This raises the question of why the Ubuntu logo does anything at all if it is only duplicating the functionality of another button - only slightly differently? In my opinion, icons giving access to system menus should be top of the list, not 'foldable' and graphically very obvious that they are not an application launcher. Thanks for the bold new concept in netbooks. Hope my comments are useful. ** Attachment added: "Workspace 1_001.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/633073/+attachment/1556939/+files/Workspace%201_001.png -- Main menu does not display sub-categories next to search input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 633103] [NEW] No autohide for global menu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity There is no option to autohide the global menu and this reduces horizontal screen real estate. [Bug 625760] Re: When switching between logged in users, system hangs on black screen
OK. I am giving up for today to try and reproduce this with the 'log out' applet. It has given no error after an hour of intensive switching. I will use it from now and give feedback if the problem reproduces. I forgot to mention that the original bug reported is intermittent. I am noticing a difference between switching users from the 'log out' applet and the 'Switch from' function in the indicator applet: 'Switch from... ' first brings up a gui log in window (for about 1second in the old style without the user avatars) for the user that I am switching from before showing up the gui user selector with avatars. [Bug 501670] Re: g_set_prgname() called multiple times
I am experiencing that this is not just a hidden error. My Gnome-Do Docky is badly affected. It seems that it starts up a double process which causes the dock to disappear at random times, and sometimes not at all at startup. (a random behaviour). This is worked around by opening the process manager and killing one of the processes. When I run Gnome-Do from the command line, this is the message I get (after a fresh install of 9.10) (/usr/lib/gnome-do/Do.exe:2819): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times (/usr/lib/gnome-do/Do.exe:2819): Wnck-CRITICAL **: wnck_set_client_type got called multiple times.
