Tried to reproduce but now I fail even earlier meaning the send button
apparently doesn't do anything. When tabbing the button, there is also
no entry in log file.

In addition, what's annoying is that the OSK is placed right on top of
the text input field, so before typing one has to scroll.

[Bug 1302801] Re: All new scopes are ignoring the privacy setting for Phone only

2014-04-07 Thread Thomas Strehl
with the old scopes, the user had basically now control where his data
was sent when doing a search on the home scope. The query went to the
smart scope server and eventually to any recommended scope. Example:
user typing ter in home scope just to start terminal app resulted in
sending this query to e.g. Amazon. That's why the scopes privacy flag
was introduced.

However, the situation with the new scopes is slightly different. No
scopes are automatically queried without the user having any control
over it. The scope scope just returns a list of recommended scopes, but
does not query those (with some exceptions like wiki or weather). After
getting a scope recommendation list, a user consciously selects a scope
to query. Additionally, the user will be able to un-/favor scopes, e.g.
unfavor the aggregating music scope (e.g. querying grooveshark) and just
favor the local music if he doesn't want any remote source to be
queried. So, to summarize, less magic, more control to the user to which
scopes to actually query.

From that point of view, the question is if we really need the scope
privacy flag in future. I mean we don't have the equivalent on the app
side neither, if a user is deeply concerned about data leaving his phone
then he should be turning off the data connection altogether.

Possible options to go forward:
1) Remove the scopes privacy flag because there is more control to the user.
2) Keep the privacy flag, with that trust the trusted scopes to not query the
internet (we cannot enforce this), and utilize the
confinement to prevent running any untrusted scopes querying the internet.

[Bug 1282590] Re: [FFe] standing freeze exception in trusty for Ubuntu Touch-specific packages

2014-03-24 Thread Thomas Strehl
Ted was asking for adding url-dispatcher to the FFe but added it to old
standing touch FFe (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1208989):

Discussed in #ubuntu-release, agreed to add url-dispatcher with the
additional restriction that any ABI changes require an FFE due to
dependencies of converged indicators.

** Description changed:

  Dear Release Team,

I would like to request a blanket FFe wrt Ubuntu Touch, for those
packages that are part of Ubuntu Touch but not part of Ubuntu Desktop.
TTBOMK, the packages that are different between the two are not
otherwise used in other flavor images.

I've assembled a list of 136 source packages, included inline below,
that would be affected by this. The script used to generate the list is
  included at the bottom.

For the vast majority of these packages, there is no expectation of
freeze-breaking changes; but since there is a high probability that some
critical features will not be landed by Feature Freeze for some subset
of these packages, I think it makes sense to deal with these as a whole
rather than requesting exceptions package-by-package or feature-by-
  feature.

You will notice as well that I didn't include Qt5 from the list, as they
are going to have another FFe for it (see discussions on the devel ML
about update to Qt 5.2) to separate concerns. I did the same for
autopilot and Mir (as it's used as a prerequisite in term of testing or
build-dependency on the desktop, but not installed in the seed).

Finally, I added the android package which isn't installed on the seed
per say, but is used to build the image and provide the android part of
  the Touch image.

[Bug 1238043] Re: indicator-datetime-service is opening /etc/localtime every 5 seconds even on a totally idle system

2013-10-16 Thread Thomas Strehl
** Description changed:

In an attempt to reduce unnecessary frequent periodic file access to
save power, I noticed that indicator-datetime-service is opening and
closing /etc/localtime every 5 seconds on my desktop and not apparently
reading this file. On the ubuntu phone it is doing the same thing with
  /etc/writable/localtime.

This seems a little excessive, especially because the TZ data doesn't
change quite that frequently. It would be useful if this excessive
polling on the file could be reduced if possible.
+
+ [Impact]

[Bug 1220235] Re: Choosing network that requires authentication asks for it repeatedly

2013-10-07 Thread Thomas Strehl
On today's image that doesn't seem to happen infinitely but rather
twice. However, that is twice for cancel but you also get the dialog
twice when entering the wrong password without a note that password was
right or wrong.

[Bug 1215397] Re: [FFe] Freeze exception for converged scope packages

2013-09-04 Thread Thomas Strehl
Yes. I moved those packages to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/unity-scope-home/+bug/1215397.

** Description changed:

Scopes for 13.10 desktop are feature complete as of now, but work for
touch images (Unity8 dash/scopes) is still ongoing. In particular the
designs around the (phone) home, music and video scope are still
evolving. Since we have the scope infrastructure and scopes itself fully
converged it means that any code changes done for phone will also affect
the desktop code base. However, we strongly assume that those changes
only affecting code path executed on phone but not on desktop. So, this
FFe is more about landing phone driven code in converged code base
rather than adding new features to 13.10 desktop scopes.

The package affected is unity-scope-home which contains, among others,
the implementation of home, music and video scope. However, some
changes (depending on upcoming designs) might also affect unity and
libunity as those packages contain e.g. the filtering code which is
slightly different on desktop and phone. Again, we do not intent to
  change any desktop code there.
-
- In addition, there are two more packages that need an FFe, mediascanner
- and unity-scope-mediascanner. Those two packages are only relevant for
- Ubuntu Touch.

[Bug 1154229] Re: [FFE] New Unity Dash

2013-03-26 Thread Thomas Strehl
** Description changed:

A new version of Unity's Dash, libunity APIs, the default and new 100
scopes, with a target date of April 1st for landing in Raring. The
rest of Unity (Launcher, Indicators, HUD, etc) will not be affected.

For reference, the new smart scope service and corresponding Unity
  changes was discussed here: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/01/30/smart-
  scopes/

The spec for the smart scope service is here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SmartScopes1304Spec

The goal is to have everything ready by April 1st. Until then, a ppa
will be updated everyday for testing the feature by a group of 5 people
  (the ppa will be: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-unity/+archive
/experimental-certified). Existing tests will be run as per of the daily
release process. That + the manual testing, we'll have a good pick on
the quality status before flipping the switch.

All packages will be prereviewed for NEWing and MIRing.

  Code:

  * Existing packages:

[Bug 1158782] [NEW] When privacy switch is on don't query client scopes with RemoteContent=true

2013-03-22 Thread Thomas Strehl
Public bug reported:

When switching on privacy we must not query the smart scope server nor
any local client scope that do remote queries. This setting has to be
synchronized with the mechanism and UI to deactivate individual scopes.

[Bug 1154229] Re: [FFE] New Unity Dash

2013-03-19 Thread Thomas Strehl
Quick status update where we are. As of today we have
all default scopes ported (except gwibber/friends) and from a user point
of view we're almost back at 12.10 functionality. Biggest regression
against 12.10 is the filtering which we're currently fixing. In more detail:

- Scopes still to be ported for client side: pypi and evolution, estimated to
be done today

- Currently 9 scopes are run on server side: amazon, weather, synonym,
antonym, dictionary, duckduckgo_related, skimlinks, wikipedia and u1ms.
More to follow by 21.3.

- Doing a scope search in dash, server scopes are queried and results
are sent back to client. There results are properly inserted into categories
and can be activated. Smaller bugs here and there like missing icons etc.

- Server preview work is in progress, currently only the general
preview, but not music or any other specific one is working. Estimated
time of landing within couple of hours after getting proper support from
server. Petronis from server side already contacted but no estimate yet.

- Master scope filtering is incomplete as we're still missing some
filter attributes (definitions). Expected to be done by 21.3.

- Enabling/disabling of individual scopes via dash is biggest remaining
todo item. Estimated to land on 21. or 22.3.
