[Bug 582390] Re: File transfers to USB devices constantly SLOWS down on large files 200MB!
Yesterday I had another similar thing happening: even when I copy large files from one harddisk file system to another file system of the same hard disk (both are ext4), the load rises to values above 9! Maybe this issue has nothing to do with USB drives, but only with copying from one file system to another?? How can I prove (show in logs) what's happening here when I encounter this? Which log files would show this annoying behavior?? Thanks! -- File transfers to USB devices constantly SLOWS down on large files 200MB! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582390 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 582390] Re: File transfers to USB devices constantly SLOWS down on large files 200MB!
The more I think about it: it's the file copying process between two file systems that produces load. The faster the destination file system is, the higher the load! That's why I had a huge load of above 9 while copying from hard disk to hard disk and a load about 5-6 when copying to a USB destination! I can even detect a load around 2 when copying to a network share! So: question is how to show the details to somebody who knows what this is all about??? -- File transfers to USB devices constantly SLOWS down on large files 200MB! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582390 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 635953] [NEW] Ctrl-C while editing file names won't copy selected text - but the whole file!
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When trying to rename files and taking parts of other file's names, I usually select the other file, press F2, select part (or all) of this file's name and press Ctrl-C. Now, when I want to use the copied text snippet, I select another file, press F2 again and do Ctrl-V - but the bug now is: Nautilus did NOT copy the selected text from the edit box into the clipboard, but instead the reference to the file - and Ctrl-V leads to duplication of the complete file!! I tried using the context menu: pressing F2 for rename, select part of a file's name, now go to the right mouse-button context menu and select Copy there - this works!! So: while editing file names, Ctrl-C behaves differently from context- menu's Copy command in the same situation! == Nautilus should NOT put the reference to a file into the clipboard on Ctrl-C if one is editing the filename! [Bug 582390] Re: File transfers to USB devices constantly SLOWS down on large files 200MB!
apport information ** Description changed: I know that this BUG is killing MANY people for a long period of time. But still, the bug report for 197762 was kind of closed: no more comments and the advice that this is a hardware-dependent issue! Well, I disagree! There are many people using Ubuntu that have that problem - but nobody seems to care!! The symptom: when copying a file with several hundred MB in size (or larger) - the copy process starts fast (in my case 30MB/s) - but then, it dramatically slows down and gets slower and slower and slower!! The system load rises to levels 6 (and NOTHING else is happening on the system at all!!). The copy process will finally come to a (successful) end - but it takes a long time: 2 GB copied in more than one hour!! Now: it might be hardware-dependent but definitely NOT a hardware failure! The same system under Windows: no problems at all! What I got: a Dell Latitude D830 with a Core2 Duo, 4GB of RAM - running the 64bit version of Ubuntu. This bug has been there for many Ubuntu versions: the first I started with was 8.04 - same issue!!! WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TRY TO HELP??? [Bug 582390] [NEW] File transfers to USB devices constantly SLOWS down on large files 200MB!
Public bug reported: I know that this BUG is killing MANY people for a long period of time. [Bug 569337] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.04 LTS RC (Lucid Lynx) does not boot at all
Public bug reported: Since the beta 2 of Lucid Lynx, I tried to get a beta and now the RC to run - but no luck at all. Since I have no clue how to file a bug when the system you want to run does not even start, I have to do it this way, sorry! I have had no problems with any previous version of Ubuntu (since 8.04) so far on this Dell Latitude D830!!! With Lucid I do not get any more but the splash screen - nothing else. The dots keep running underneath the ubuntu logo, but nothing happens for minutes. I do not know where to look for WHAT is going wrong, the only chance is the switch of the computer completely!! I got a Dell Latitude D830 with Core2 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD, Nvidia graphics card - all standard!! But I simply does not boot! Now I am getting nervous with an update that I wanted to do on April 29th! How can I test 10.04 before if it does not boot?? I tried it with a CD-R and from an USB-stick, so that cannot be the issue! I am trying to get the 64bit version running, but the 32bit showed the same symptoms!! So, please help: where can I at least so WHAT is going wrong? How can I switch of the splash screen and see anything? THANKS!! ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS RC (Lucid Lynx) does not boot at all https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) or USB HDD are slowing down with time
This bug is the most annoying, most critical and nerve-wracking one in the whole Ubuntu universe! This makes me hate my beloved Ubuntu cause I am not able to use ANY USB-connected memory device! I can also constitute that when copying large files (100MB) to any USB device (memory stick, hard drive, does not matter...) the transfer starts normal with a couple of MB/sec, everything's normal - but then, after 100 MB have been transfered, the speed drops dramatically down to a few KB/sec - when copying 2 GB files, I sometimes get the remaining time up to over 1 hour!! What I can see then, is that the load of the system rises to 6 or even 8 - only because of that file transfer going on. When the copy finally is done, the system behaves normal again and the load is where it belongs, 0.something or so. This problem has been there for quite some time now, at least the last 1,5 to 2 years! I am not sure though when it first hit me... I am using the 64bit Ubuntu 9.10 currently on a Dell Latitude D830. Is there ANYBODY out there who knows how to fix this?? I don't want to have to use Windows just because file copying is so damn slow! Also, I am always kind of in a trouble when I want to copy files for friends: when they see how long it takes I cannot find a single positive argument for them to switch to Ubuntu anymore!! :-( -- file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) or USB HDD are slowing down with time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 226784] Re: High load when copying large file to low speed usb device
Hi folks! I am having exactly the same problem described here: whenever I copy large 500+ MB files (video) to any USB connected drive, stick, whatever - the copy starts with a high speed (35+ MB/s), but eventually - approx. after half of it - it stalls, CPU load rises and the speed drops down to less than 1 MB/s. The copy finally finishes, but it takes hours - Windows on the same machine is wa faster! WHY? Where do I have to look - what is going on here? I really love Ubuntu and wanted to abandon other OSes forever - but with this...? I got Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on a Dell Latitude D830 with Core2 Duo processor. Any ideas? Thanks! -- High load when copying large file to low speed usb device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226784 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 517116] [NEW] Cannot connect any more - found no access token in log
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client A couple of days ago Ubuntu One stopped working. I always have a ! inside the could in the notification area. On top: whenever my computer starts, Firefox is opened! It drove me crazy and I had to find out which application does this to me... Disabling ALL startup programs and one-by-one enabling them again, I found Ubuntu One being the cause. Then I looked for problems - well, the log is really hidden, guys! No way to get this information another way?? This is my log: 2010-02-04 17:13:09,003 - ubuntuone.SyncDaemon.DBus - ERROR - Can't get the auth token Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ubuntuone/syncdaemon/dbus_interface.py, line 1073, in connect access_token = self.main.get_access_token() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ubuntuone/syncdaemon/main.py, line 299, in get_access_token return self.oauth_client.get_access_token() File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ubuntuone/syncdaemon/main.py, line 339, in get_access_token raise NoAccessToken(No access token found.)
