[Blueprint servercloud-q-awstools] Package (more) AWS tools for Ubuntu

2012-04-23 Thread Eric Hammond
Blueprint changed by Eric Hammond:

Whiteboard changed:
- Ubuntu has packages for only two sets of AWS tools:
+ Ubuntu has packages for some AWS tools:

    * EC2 API Tools [package: ec2-api-tools]
    * EC2 AMI Tools [package: ec2-ami-tools]
    * RDS - Relational Database Service [package: rdscli]
    * IAM - Identity and Access Management [package: iamcli]

  If we want Ubuntu to be the easiest distro for use with the biggest and
  most popular public cloud, then there are a number of other important
  AWS tool sets that we need to have packaged for easy installation in
  Ubuntu when using AWS services, including:

    * ELB - Elastic Load Balancing - http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/2536
  [packaged as 'elbcli' in ppa:awstools-dev/awstools]
    * aws-cloudformation-cli
  [packaged as 'aws-cloudformation-cli' in
ppa:awstools-dev/aws-cloudformation-cli]
    * Auto Scaling - http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/2535
    * CloudWatch - http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/2534
    * ElastiCache -
http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/Amazon-ElastiCache/2310261897259567
    * AWS Import/Export - http://aws.amazon.com/importexport/tools/
    * EMR - Elastic MapReduce -
http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/Elastic-MapReduce/2264
    * CloudSearch - http://aws.amazon.com/developertools/9054800585729911
    * CloudFront - ? http://aws.amazon.com/code/CloudFront
    * Route53 - ?
    * etc.

  If all of these can't be supported, then prioritize the important ones
  with user feedback and start working on getting them into Ubuntu, or at
  least into a PPA.

  Note: Scott Moser has started an awstools team and PPA which can be used
  for this purpose, but there have not been sufficient resources applied
  to date in adding and updating all of the important tools:
  https://launchpad.net/~awstools-dev/+archive/awstools

  Generally, I think I've got a reasonably easily copied [template] in
  rdscli for the aws java tools.

[Bug 987535] [NEW] Javascript under /static/horizon isn't served

2012-04-23 Thread Calvin Walton
Public bug reported:

Similar to Bug #980787

When I browse the horizon page, my web browser gets 404 errors on all the files
under /static/horizon - including some js required for functionality.
Adding the line:

  Alias /static/horizon /usr/share/pyshared/horizon/static/horizon

to /etc/apache2/conf.d/openstack-dashboard.conf
fixes the issue.

[Bug 375371] Re: MySQL must not use /tmp

2012-04-23 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I think moving tmpdir to /var/tmp/mysql is fine (though remember
/var/tmp is not automatically cleaned). This directory would then not be
sticky and lack world writes? Would it also be 0700? If it is 0755 then
mysql's umask should be 077.

[Bug 791758] Re: CVE-2011-1929 and Dovecot 1.0.10-1ubuntu5.2 in Hardy

2012-04-23 Thread Steve Beattie
Hi,

Sorry for losing track of the issue.

I was getting corrupted headers where because one header had multiple
NULLs in it, when dovecot wrote the message back, it ended up dropping
that header and merging/corrupting another header. The example I came up
with was where the original message looked like so:

  From te...@test3.com Tue Nov 28 11:29:34 2007
  Date^@: Tue, 28 Nov 2007 11:29:34 +0100

  ^@^@s: R

  Stop cracking!

(note that the ^@ are representations of NULL characters). Causing the
message to be written back in dovecot reults i the following:

  From te...@test3.com Tue Nov 28 11:29:34 2007
  Date^@: Tue, 28 Nov 2007 11:29:34 +0100

  To: Dovecot tester
  Sub^@ject: Test X-IMAPbase: 1308694311 01

  Status: O

  Stop cracking!

Note that the fake Subject line has the X-IMAPbase header merged into
it. I was not able to get more widespread corruption of the mailbox, but
didn't try very hard.

Anyway, dovecot in hardy is not affected by the original crashing issue,
and so I'm going to close this specific bug report.

Thanks, and sorry again for the delay in following up with this issue.

[Bug 978356] Re: squid3 gets killed at startup with dnsmasq and no networkmanager

2012-04-23 Thread Clint Byrum
squid3 includes a resolvconf script to run whenever DNS servers change:

#!/bin/sh

PATH="/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin"

# Make squid aware of changes to resolv.conf
if status squid3 | grep "start/running" > /dev/null; then
reload squid3
fi

reconfigure also ends a HUP:

if (!strncmp(optarg, "reconfigure", strlen(optarg)))
/** \li On reconfigure send SIGHUP. */
opt_send_signal = SIGHUP;

And yes, thats what I mean, there's a lag between when squid might receive the
HUP, and when it will handle it properly. I'd rather ignore that HUP than die,
since most of what it is doing at that exact time is reading its configuration
and then attempting DNS lookups. I haven't looked deep enough into the code yet
to see if it could handle the full reconfiguration earlier.

Ahh, perhaps after running winbindd this check the end of
/var/log/samba/* and /var/log/syslog for any error messages explaining
why it isn't starting? (sudo tail /var/log/syslog).

[Bug 971028] Re: kerberos auth doesn't work because of kerberos server not found

2012-04-23 Thread James Page
Hi Thomas

Thanks again for the extra information.

/etc/ldap/ldap.conf is classified as a configuration file so package
changes to this file should not overwrite you local changes without
prompting.

However looking at this file it had not been changed between oneiric and
precise so I'm not quite sure why you are hitting this issue (I have not
been able to reproduce this locally following the same upgrade path).

Please could you check the package ownership of this files by running
the following commands:

  dpkg -S /etc/ldap/ldap.conf
  dpkg -S /etc/ldap.conf

Please post the output in the bug report.

Thanks

[Bug 987371] [NEW] unconfined containers are not starting

2012-04-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1
lxc-start -n p1

That works.

Uncomment the 'lxc.aa_profile = unconfined' in /var/lib/lxc/p1/config,
and now

lxc-start -n p1

does not work.

The relevant code in src/lxc/start.c does:

if (aa_change_profile(handler->conf->aa_profile) < 0) {
SYSERROR("failed to change apparmor profile to %s",
handler->conf->aa_profile);
return -1;
}

By default (when it works), hander->conf->aa_profile is set to

lxc-container-default

[Bug 987207] [NEW] Puppetmaster-passenger will not start after reinstalling due to libapache2-mod-passenger

2012-04-23 Thread Glenn Aaldering
Public bug reported:

As requested by Micah Gersten:

When purging and installing puppetmaster-passenger again it wont start.
This is somehow due to a2enmod passenger which is not executed properly.
The output of the second install is attached as logfile since thats
where this bug shows up.

Howto reproduce on fresh ubuntu precise machine:
1: aptitude install puppetmaster-passenger
2: aptitude purge puppetmaster-passenger
3: aptitude install puppetmaster-passenger.

First install: apache2 is installed togheter with libapache2-mod-passenger. The
install script of libapache2-mod-passenger will make sure a2enmod passenger is
executed.
First purge: libapache2-mod-passenger gets removed, and mod-passenger is
disabled (apache2 is not removed though)
Second install: libapache2-mod-passenger is installed again, but not enabled.

The workaround to properly reinstall without running into problems is to
completely remove puppetmaster-passenger and libapache2-mod-passenger:

1: aptitude install puppetmaster-passenger
2: aptitude purge puppetmaster-passenger
3: aptitude purge libapache2-mod-passenger
4: aptitude install puppetmaster-passenger

As far as I can see the problem is that when puppetmaster-passenger is
purged the dependency libapache2-mod-passenger doesnt get properly
removed. The next time puppetmaster-passenger is installed the
dependency mod-passenger wont get enabled. Im not sure if this is a bug
in the dependency control, or a bug in the install/remove scripts from
libapache2-mod-passenger.

[Bug 907905] Re: php5-cli scripts not running in background, stays stopped.

2012-04-23 Thread Jakob Unterwurzacher
Caused by the readline module and cannot be avoided.
>From http://php.net/manual/en/book.readline.php :
When readline is enabled, php switches the terminal mode to accept
line-buffered input. This means that the proper way to use the cli when you
pipe to an interactive command is to explicitly specify that php is not using
the terminal for input:
