[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998308] Re: invisible mouse cursor in 12.04

2013-05-14 Thread David Collins
Garry Newman has apparently encountered this bug:
https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/334249677992103936

He is the creator of one of the most popular Half-Life 2 mods ever made,
and was in the process of porting his mod to Linux when he encountered
the bug. This is not the right sort of impression to be given to Linux
newcomers.

encountered the bug. This is not the right sort of impression to be
given to Linux newcomers.

He shouldn't have used Ubuntu in the first place. Ubuntu is so full of
unresolved (RC) bugs, that I have stopped worrying about these. As long
as we fix that stuff in Debian, I'm happy.

He shouldn't have used Ubuntu in the first place. Ubuntu is so full of
unresolved (RC) bugs,

Ubuntu becomes (is trying to be) a desktop alternative to Windows.
It is natural to port the game into desktop platform.

2012-07-19 Thread Carlos Romel
Hi.

To me, this problem is related to GNOME environment, since KDE and
WindowMaker don't show this issue. LightDM and GDM performs equals this
bug. LDM and KDM works like a charm.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998308] Re: invisible mouse cursor in 12.04

2012-05-16 Thread Slav
I am thinking that by using SWCursor option in X Server I can eliminate video
driver compatibility issues.
There are few posts on forum but nether one pointed to config file available in
Ubuntu 12.

Could you advice if assumption that SWCursor option bypass rendering
mouse pointer (cursor) by specific video driver is a correct assumption
and where it should be set in Ubuntu 12 (Gnome 3)?

Ubuntu better. Please run the command 'apport-collect 998308' which will
attach necessary information for debugging this as an Xorg problem.

Boot completely the system.
If you cannot do this graphically, switch to tty and type
sudo apt-get install w3m
It is a textual browser, to insert data, put the cursor on the field and press
enter, TEXT written appear below.

2012-05-14 Thread Slav
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Issue
  ---
12.04 64 bit Installation finished successfully with no errors. But nether
login screen nor default desktop have mouse cursor. Mouse works but cursor
pointer is completely invisible. However cursor shows up for little moment
while in transition from login screen to desktop.

  Facts
  ---
  - default config for gnome - Tried both upgrade from 10.04.04 to 12.04 and
fresh install of 12.04 from alternate.iso. Exactly same look with no cursor.
  - video drv ok - I use AST driver that manufacture validated with 12.04.
Indeed there is no errors in X server log and it uses driver provided by AST.
  - no hw issues - hw in use cpu E5520 chip-set X58. Was working fine with
ubuntu 10.04 for years with no issues at all.
  - no errors in X server log
I see that combination of lightdm and unity-greeter is used but can not find
error in log.
What program is responsible to draw mouse cursor on default desktop in 12.04,
how to narrow the issue?
