I though my question - posed some time ago now - was quite clear. I can't
even recall getting an actual reply to my question. I found a similar
thread via a Google search, but that just basically told the OP to use
import. It really is difficult to imagine that the KDE-PIM developers
don't know about LibreOffice or its ability to import addresses. I really
assume it is incumbent on the LibreOffice devs to create the appropriate
tool. Did the Evolution devs create the LibreOffice tool for accessing its
address book directly?

It really is completely mind-boggling that two prominent projects would
somehow "miss" each other like this.

Re: [libreoffice-users] spreadsheet formulas stopped working

2015-12-15 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Has the spreadsheet been converted to an MS format such as XlsX and
back again? Perhaps more importantly has MS Office 2007 been used to
save the Ods file? Microsoft's support for formats that can be used
by other programs is notoriously weak.

But possibly untechnical. Did you ask how you can connect to the
contacts and issue an SQL query such as

Only a tiny fraction of LO users is aware of database connectivity. Most
users use Base through the mail merge wizard to connect a serial letter
with a spreadsheet. That wizard hides away the whole database thing.
Most software developers never use any office suite.

That was the ticket. I have no recollection of changing this setting.
Thank you for pointing it out

Good-oh!

Incidentally, =SUM(F4;F27) makes sense, as does =F4+F27, but
=SUM(F4+F27) doesn't: it tries to sum a single value - the result of
already adding F4 and F27. How about SUM(3) instead of 3? Or
SUM(SUM(3))? The same applies to =SUM(L25-N26) and =SUM(F29-L29).
Drop the superfluous "SUM".

There's this old stuff :

http://opensource.bureau-cornavin.com/kab/

No idea whether it still works.

And this :

https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7=36227

would seem to indicate that the shift to the Akonadi backend hosed
connectivity for everyone - you could always blame the KDE people, or
those involved in the KAB software for choosing a backend that no longer
allowed for interfacing with OOo/LO, but I doubt that would do much good

 ;-)

Someone requested such support back in 2010 :

[libreoffice-users] Re: Envelopes print in wrong orientation

When I dropped Windows for linux about 18 months' ago, I moved to
LibreOffice 4.2.8.2 and saw that LO Writer had inherited the same bug
from OO.

My case involved a standard size European envelope to suit A4 paper
folded into a third (two folds on the long side) - approx 22cm x 11cm.
IIRC, this is the DL envelope in LO and OO.

LibreOffice (and OO) give in this case an unwanted 2" top margin. Your
workaround to correct paper size, adjust top margin, shift the text
boxes, is too much hassle if you've lots of envelopes to do.

Yes, that workaround is too much if envelopes are routinely being printed.
I did the same thing, create a template for #10 envelopes, when I was on LO
3.x. Even though I wasn't making lots of envelopes I seem to recall it was
even harder to get a properly printed envelope than the steps provided in
my response. Creating a template was the only way to consistently get a
properly printed envelope.

Since I've been on LO 5 I've only printed #10 envelopes using the menu
features (didn't bring the template forward to the new installation) and
haven't encountered any bug. I was surprised to see it rear its head when I
did the testing to reply to Bill's message. Since it's happening to you on
a different size perhaps the bug is a component of the envelope size or
maybe the printer setting or a combination.

Regardless, yes it is a very frustrating bug to deal with If I was a
programmer I certainly would try and resolve that one. But I'm not. So
can't do more than identify, develop workarounds, and hope for it to go
away.

Coming from MS Word I was horrified to see that I could not print
envelopes, because OOo/LO did not permit landscape printing. I found
that the preset language type for printer was "PDF". When I changed this
to "Postscript" I could print in Landscape. If this is your problem:

Under "Print" -> "General" -> "Properties of Printer" -> "Apparatus"
choose "Language Type of Printer": "Postscript Level of printing
propgram". The alternative is "PDF". If you choose the latter, it is
impossible to print in Landscape. I am working with the Dutch language
version, so the choices above might be slightly different.

I hope this helps.

Greetings and good luck.

Erik

This spreadsheet is 4 years old, and from 3.*.* days.

I just clicked on the "sum" button to get the cells to add/etc. I'll
