[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Online
Hi all Sharing exciting news http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice-l10n-LibreOffice-on-the-cloud-Open365-tp4181681.html It links to the brand new https://open365.io/ I just opened an account and it behaves exactly like the offline version. You can even change the icon theme or add extensions like dictionaries (and they work!) The only limitation is that the interface is in US English only. Have fun! (I'm not affiliated to the company providing the service, in fact I couldn't find any information about it so I wouldn't recommend uploading any sensitive information...) -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/LibreOffice-Online-tp4181840.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Online
The usability issue might be related to the fact that it is an online service, and is subject to bandwidth and computing power restriction. To truly evaluate such service, it might be better to just grab the code and deploy it in local. If it works well enough, I can see this being useful in corporate environments. -- Cley Faye http://cleyfaye.net 2016-04-25 3:49 GMT+02:00 Marc Grober: > At least on-line at open365.io it seems completely unusable. Re: [libreoffice-users] open a Mac numbers file in calc?
Dave Stevens wrote: anyone know if/how? will rtfm if directed You don't mention a lot of pertinent information including what OS you're using, what version of LibreOffice you're using, and what version of Numbers file you are working with so it's hard to help with specific advice. I recommend trying to load the Apple Numbers file; if the open file dialog only shows OpenDocument files, try changing the filetype pop-up to show all files (some file prompters will let you do this). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice#Supported_file_formats mentions "Apple Numbers '09 or earlier (basic spreadsheets for Numbers)" from version 5.0 released on 2015-08-05. If this doesn't work, try sharing the Apple Numbers file by posting it to a globally-accessible hoster (such as archive.org) so others can try opening it and converting it for you. You can also try using Numbers to load the file you have and export the data you want to keep (pictures, sounds, tables of data, etc.) into files other programs can load (pictures as TIFFs or PDFs; sounds as WAV, AIFF, or FLAC files; tables of data as ODF, CSV, or some other format commonly used). In theory one of these approaches should let you keep the data you care about, import that data into a free software spreadsheet, and avoid future file format lock-in such as you currently have with Apple Numbers which is proprietary software.
Re: [libreoffice-users] file format problem?
I strongly agree with Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster. But I'd also suggest that you NEVER overwrite the original document without first saving a backup copy of the original to a different name or in a different location. -- Tim Deaton === On 4/6/2016 11:41 AM, Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster wrote: On 04/06/2016 11:16 AM, anne-ology wrote: Maybe I can help, [see notes interspersed below] From: Thomas BlasejewiczDate: Wed, Apr 6, 2016 at 7:50 AM Subject: [libreoffice-users] file format problem? To: users@global.libreoffice.org Good evening I am not sure whether this is a LibreOffice (?) problem or just MY problem. It happened before, but I will describe the latest episode. I was working with Writer on a Word (.docx) file. As a translation job I was supposed to overwrite that file. [MsFt does not necessarily recognize LO; had you opened this in LO or MsFt? (docx is one of MsFt's files)] Is there any requirement to use MS's .docx format instead of the more compatible .doc format? I do not do any translation between languages, but if you do not need to use .docx for the translated file, then I would not do so. To be honest, the .docx format have compatibility issues between MS's Word versions. Last year, I finally convinced a MS Office user that it would be better to use .doc over .docx for the files emailed out to many users that have various versions of MS Office, and for me LO. For me, I make all my word processing documents using .odt and then save it in .doc format for the MS Word users. The file contained images, tables and objects. After being 2/3 finished, I saved the file, went downstairs and wanted to continue working while having a coffee. However, when I opened the file, saved in SpiderOakOne, I noticed, that the latter 2/3 of the file were gone. [yet another program?] Including 1/2 day of work. Even archived earlier versions of the same file showed only the first 1/3. Trying to open that file with MS Word, resulted in the following error: "File Format error at SAXParse Exception: [word/document.xml line 2]: Attribute w:hAnsi redefined Stream word/document.xml line 2, column 73305 (row, col)" [suggestion: open LO - then attempt to open saved document, allowing it to translate if necessary; hopefully, your file will re-appear.] The file contained originally about 4300 Japanese characters. Even though there was nothing on my screen beyond the first 1/3 of that file, its size did not change. When I deleted the second 2/3 of the original file, the original size of 470 kb shrank to 130 kb. After I retyped all the lost work and saved that first as .ODT and then later as .docx, file size was 23 and 16 kb respectively. [these are MsFt not LO documents.] A different translator translating the same file (probably using MS Word) into a different language had apparently no problems. What is happening here? Does this mean Writer has problems handling MS Word files? Is it the incomprehensible .docs format? [that's a good word to describe MsFt ;-)] Do I HAVE to use Word for such file? Something I really do not want to do! Is there anything to PREVENT this kind of event? (retyping my work all the time will get me into real trouble!) [suggestion: use LO to open documents ... work with documents ... then if necessary, save as MsFt to send to others - although if they too have LO, then no translation would be necessary ;-)] Thomas -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
