Perhaps your client is too old? Which client/os? Is it the same machine that used to work? For vnc you can try to use some variation (might add debugging stuff) of the script from [1]. On 02/09/2015 04:50 AM, Raymond wrote: Hi, Long time read-only user here :) Unfortunately I need some info which I can't seem to find in the archives and on Google. In the past 5 months we’ve had two very rare occasions of power failures in my hometown. First one was a ms during spike or drop, just enough to cause a reboot, the other was a 30min failure. Problem After the power failure my ovirt nodes boot into CentOS 6.6 and are running fine. In both cases my ovirt-engine-VM wouldn't "start" due to service Postgresql not starting. I tried some things before reverting back to an older DB snapshot that was on the VM disk, but still not working. Postgresql is not starting due to "Duplicate UUID" My solution Calm down girlfriend and don't sleep Reinstall 1 node, create new ovirt-engine, recreate VM's and copy VM disk data from old store to new store. Add second node Other solutions I can think of 1. Start cluster without reinstall ;) 2. Buy UPS (€150 one time, extra €60 yearly power usage = €450 in 5 years) At this moment I’m 1 click away from buying the UPS, but I prefer a more elegant solution. After the last power failure I did NOT reinstall my second ovirt node and the old engine is also on storage available. Is there someone that wants some data to troubleshoot/analyse? Or is this just one of those things? Buy the UPS and get on with your life? Short HW overview 2x ovirt 3.5.x (i3/32GB ram,1Gb eth VM network, dual x520 NFS eth) 1x NFS (i3/4GB ram, 5TB SAS and 6TB SATA on Dell PERC,1Gb eth mgmt, dual x520 10Gb) 1Gb is used for VM networking, the 10Gb is connected via DAC cables and runs NFS-storage. This works great! Whole cluster runs below 120w and VM disk performance is around 700MB/s :) I bought all the HW with power usage in mind, PicoPSU's and 35w CPU's in all nodes. So adding 30w "extra" just for the UPS feels a bit like killing an elephant with tissues... kind regards Raymond ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users if your DC is 3.5, you don't need to copy the vm disks, just install new engine and import the data domain http://www.ovirt.org/Features/ImportStorageDomain (i assume there is a way to fix the postgres issue itself as well) ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Hello, I've run into an "odd" problem with oVirt 3.5.1. I've two sets of VMs: A) some fairly critical VMs which need HA and have access to shared storage B) some less important systems which can be reconstructed in the event of a disaster My plan was to use the slack disk on my oVirt nodes to host the 'B' systems while still allowing the 'A' systems to run there. This seems to not be allowed[1]. Is there a way I can utilize both the spare disk on my compute nodes and have HA configured for some VMs with shared storage? Currently indeed each datacenter must be configured as a shared or local storage one, no mix for the same datacenter. For the next release (ovirt 3.6) we are going to have oVirt and GlusterFS hyper converged: you'll can use each host both for virtualization pourposes and for storages ones sharing the local spare disks into a shared GlusterFS volume to be used by oVirt hosts. So you can also have HA capabilities and so on for the VM stored on the host disks shared in a GlusterFS volume; at the same time you could still use you state-of-the art SAN for critical VMs. Here you can find some info an this architecture: http://www.ovirt.org/images/6/6c/2015-ovirt-glusterfs-hyperconvergence.pdf Than we are also going to have self-hosted engine over GlusterFS. Re: [ovirt-users] Problem deploying ovirt-hosted-engine to iSCSI
What are you using for your ISCSI shares? Can you mount the share elsewhere and see if its creating the domain. I had a similar problem using FreeNAS for ISCSI shares, and it was because I didn't define a size for the lun. Re: [ovirt-users] Guest VM Running 160 RCU Processes
On 10/21/2014 07:13 PM, Darrell Budic wrote: Was poking at this a little to see if there was any tuning that could affect it and spotted some oddness with the processor counts on my VMs under Ovirt 3.4. They seem to think they only have the proper number I set in ovirt (as shown in /proc/cpu), but if I look at dmidecode, there’s 159 bogus processors listed. I’d expect maybe 16 from the -smp 1,maxcpus=16,sockets=16,cores=1,threads=1 argument to qemu-kvm, but there are 0xa0 of them. Maybe this is a seabios or qemu-kvm issue causing all those extras? Anyway, the # of rcu* processes matches pretty well, so that’s likely where it’s coming from. At least they shouldn’t be causing a performance issue, given their purpose as non-blocking work threads, but it is odd to see. Punit, did you open a BZ I can add these details to? BTW, this appears to be corrected with some component of Ovirt 3.5 (probably qemu-rhev?). On VMs started after I upgraded my Engine (even on 3.4 vdsmds), I’m only seeing 16 “processors” in the bios, and thus only 16 of the various rcu* processes. Could have been a general Centos 6.5 update too, since I did those as well, so I can’t get any finer resolution on that issue (both engine and host nodes, lots of Centos 7 VMs). If there is a RFE for this, perhaps a configurable max # of CPU sockets for hot add could be added, or it could be limited to the max physical cpu count of the biggest host in the cluster? there are configs for that already: /etc/ovirt-engine/engine-config/engine-config.properties:MaxNumOfVmCpus /etc/ovirt-engine/engine-config/engine-config.properties:MaxNumOfVmSockets /etc/ovirt-engine/engine-config/engine-config.properties:MaxNumOfCpuPerSocket -Darrell On Oct 20, 2014, at 7:34 AM, Doron Fediuck wrote: - Original Message - From: "Punit Dambiwal" To: users@ovirt.org, "Dan Kenigsberg" , "Itamar Heim" , aha...@redhat.com Sent: Monday, October 20, 2014 5:58:20 AM Subject: Re: [ovirt-users] Guest VM Running 160 RCU Processes Hi, Is there any body suggest me good way to handle it?? In order to make sure we keep track of it, do you mind opening an RFE (BZ) with all the relevant details, including the hardware that you're using, guests config, how busy the guests/host are, Which hypervisor is used and the versions. [ovirt-users] Problem deploying ovirt-hosted-engine to iSCSI
Hi, I'm back to testing oVirt again but have come across a problem when trying to deploy the ovirt hosted engine with iSCSI. The deploy asks questions about iSCSI, finds the iSCSI target, asks for the iqn, then goes to start the storage server but stops there, hanging forever. In this state I can see that the iSCSI session has logged in and the drive appears in the system (as sdb) but that's it. It appears as though it's getting stuck when it tries to get the list of luns. Has anyone else come across this issue? Any ideas where I can start with troubleshooting? Cheers, Justin. ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users
