remote-viewer from virt-viewer package is the client you want.

Never tried it myself.

engine-setup also runs that for you, among other things. iirc it was mentioned
somewhere that this is/will be the preferred way to do that.

Re: [Users] ovirt reports

Please check the dwh log for error and check the history database for data.
You should be able to select any datacenter you like. You can not select
multiple datacenters.
Input controls should list all the living entities by default and you can click
on the dropdown to get a list.

You can just put plain password, it should work...

If you want to encrypt use:

echo -n 'PASSWORD' | openssl pkeyutl -encrypt -certin -inkey
/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/certs/engine.cer | openssl enc -a | tr -d '\n'

But Dafna, isn't there a way at UI to re-specify password, so it be encrypted
by the application?

It is purely an Engine issue, and apparently this is a very new

Re: [Users] How to setup FreeBSD 8.3 Guest on oVirt 3.3

2014-02-10 Thread Doron Fediuck
Based on KVM docs: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status#FreeBSD
you should use e1000 NIC to begin with.

There are several known issues with amd64:
http://lowendtalk.com/discussion/5558/freebsd-amd64-kvm-troubleshooting
http://forum.proxmox.com/threads/11843-Proxmox-2-2-Freebsd-8-3-AMD64-freezes-can-not-start-installation

So I'd go with disabling anything you can, and try a very
basic boot at first.

Please try and let us know.

Thanks,
Doron

2014-02-10 Thread Sven Kieske
My findings so far are:

you can't install ovirt-engine-cli.
it fails with the mentioned error.

according to google searches this must
be related to the metadata on the mirrorserver
here:

Re: [Users] 3.3.2 repo defect?

2014-02-10 Thread Sven Kieske
I can install ovirt-engine-cli from 3.3.3 repo
so this seems an isolated issue just affecting the
3.3.2 repo.

I unfortunately need this repo.
It would be cool if this could get fixed.

Thank you.

there were/are two issues.
- one in vdsm reporting it which has been merged recently
- then this engine not actually updating the field. This is a regression,
though it must have happened quite some time ago…may be after

A similar solution is supposed to be there for Windows VMs but if I'm not
mistaken it's not in place yet. I'll check that

In 3.4 it's there finally, I forgot we changed the dialog for "vminit" feature.
So the TZ dropdown box in General tab should set the time for the next run.
It's supposed to be changeable for Windows OSs (Linux is always 0). It works in
UI but apparently the backend code is not changing the utc_diff value. So that
one we need to fix.
And the updates from vdsm side are not reflected in DB if I understand what the
bug says…the code looks alright though, so need to verify

Thansk,

Feel free to apply and test if you can otherwise wait for one of the nightlies

I was referring to the set of gluster volume tunables in [1]. These

The quorum options are used for providing tolerance against split-brains

Hi Sahina,

it's been some days since I got this to work thanks to your help. I
still don't have the time to seek trhough the logs to find when the
engine left things without erasing after the force deletion of the DC,
but if you wish, I can send you the raw logs and you may search in them.
Tell me if it's ok with you and I'll send you a google drive link.

[Users] Organizing toolbar content in Ovirt - Feedback requested

2014-02-10 Thread Malini Rao
Hi everyone,

Ovirt is a powerful tool with rich functionality where users are able to take a
wider range of actions on various business entities. This results in richly
populate toolbars but also however creates problems such as cognitive overload,
visual clutter and layout issues on smaller screen resolutions.

Attached is a proposal to control and organize the toolbar content. We would
love your feedback and comments on this so that we can determine if we can make
these changes and/or do some usability testing around it.

Thanks
Malini

Anyone know what could be happening?

Hi Eduardo,

I'm afraid you have a vm with an invalid drive, created without the required
"format" attribute.

We have seen this issue when upgrading from old versions, or when migrating vms.
See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1055437

Can you add more information that will help debug this issue?

- ovirt-engine/vdsm versions
- logs: engine.log, vdsm.log
- what was the trigger of this error (e.g. started when migrating vm?)

If you think your case is not relevant to bug 1055437, please open a new bug.

Thanks,
Nir

I can see if i can compare the function flags to determine the model of the
processor, and perhaps this will give us a clue as to a functional
differentiation between the netburst architecture and core architecture for
your purposes.

Does the hypervisor do anything different based on which extensions are
passed? I believe

I would note that RHEV system requirements is simply 64 bit and
virtualization extensions, I suppose all processors should be supported,
including older ones. I also assume the system will not run newer
processors as hosts, so I guess that the developers will have to update
this list of capabilities to be passed to qemu libvirt in the future, and
that the list of processors will become longer and more confusing over time.

I suppose you could have a facility where the user can query and manage the
host processor and the profile of capabilities passed to qemu?

Might it not be best to avoid identifying the "branding" the processor, and
instead concentrate on identifying and informing the user which
capabilities are found and will be passed to guests. You could warn users
if certain capabilities are absent which may be important, and expect the
user to update their hardware as they see fit. I frankly do not typically
care about processor functions unless I am lacking one that is required by
the system I am running ie: vx extensions. I assume that other features may
limit which OS you run ie pae, nx, sse2 being required for Windows 8.
Otherwise I assume that extensions may increase performance or are not used
by most operating systems and software.

for example:

"the system found the following processor features on this host: vmx,sse2. The
following features will be passed to guests: qemu64,+sse2 . Note that some
processors may lack features that are required by guest os's or are
recommended for better performance. Note that this processor lacks NX
extensions and may not run Windows 8 guests.

Thank you again for your assistance in understanding our situation, Itamar

Apologies if I am misunderstanding the situation, and my suggestions are

in theory, you are right, we could just pass the best "lowest common
denominator" of hosts in the cluster, etc.
but, cpu's with arbitrary set of flags don't exist in real life, and we
were advised by the kvm group to not use such cpu combinations, rather
stick to predefined ones (also note, predefined cpu models have more
than just cpu flags in them).

btw, you can set a VM to use '-cpu host', which will tell kvm to use
best possible flags from physical hosts (but i think we block live
migration in that case)

i went to 3.0 tag in the git repo.

Just realized mailing list was not CCed.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1063433 has been filed
regarding the patch.

I had to apply using 'patch -d /usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages -p2
< 0001-netinfo.speed-avoid-log-spam.patch', and verified it works.

Will file the IB bug report shortly.

Actually it seems more complicated because also with vnc as display, I
don't get the L2 VM in paused state as in spice, but if I run once and
select CentOS 6.4 CD it starts and then it blocks at this screen (see
link below), so it has to do with nested itself that is not so viable,
at least with this cpu (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7- 4870 @ 2.40GHz) and
this L0

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvVHJybUw2dGFlTjg/edit?usp=sharing

At least with console set as vnc I can power off without problem my L2
VM and continue to work; instead with spice console as soon as I power
off the paused L2 VM, the hypervisor (that is L1 vm) completely
freezes with black console and I need to power off it.

My problem is similar to this one:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=922075

but in my case L0 is ESXi 5.1, 799733 so I think I have no much chance
to trick it...

I may a little behind on the versions, so let me see if I have more recent
version I could install and see if the problem goes away.

Note that once [1] will be merged (will be included in 3.4), the usage of
the former api for adding/updating vnic of vm/template with network name and
port mirroring will be more predictable and easy to use.

Just posted a post for that matter with few examples on [2].

So that I can try to reinsert it and verify.

But Dafna, isn't there a way at UI to re-specify password, so it be encrypted
by the application?

the problem is that the storage already exists but non-operational and
we cannot edit a storage in any status other than active.
so if the password changed during a storage issue, the storage cannot
recover to active state if the password had changed and the luns are not
visible on the storage and we also cannot edit the password for the
domain...

Re: [Users] SPICE behind NAT

2014-02-10 Thread Alan Murrell
Just got a chance to get back to this. Looks like I cannot connect
using SPICE at all, even from the internal network. I could connect
fine (from internal network) before the attempted proxy changes :-(

When I try to connect using SPICE, the black console windows pops ups,
and just says "Connecting to graphic server", then just stays there.
I can connect using VNC, if that helps shed any light.

To answer Andrew's questions:

Quoting "Andrew Lau" :

- Can you connect to squid from your browser?

If I go to in my browser I get:

--- START ---

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: /

Invalid URL

Some aspect of the requested URL is incorrect.

Some possible problems are:

Missing or incorrect access protocol (should be "http://"; or similar)

Missing hostname

Illegal double-escape in the URL-Path

Illegal character in hostname; underscores are not allowed.

Your cache administrator is root.
--- END ---

- Did you modify the squid.conf to match your setup? (dst addresses, etc).

I have the following for my SPICE config:

--- START ---
# SPICE proxy
http_access deny CONNECT !Safe_ports
acl spice_servers dst 10.20.37.0/24
http_access allow spice_servers
--- END ---

<10.20.37.0/24> is my internal network.

- iptables?

I made the suggested ACCEPT entry, but just to be sure, I completely
stopped iptables so the server was wide-open and still unable to
connect to SPICE. Still get same error when trying to connect to to
the proxy.

- restarted engine?

I did. I also tried the following (restarted engine and tested after
each attempt):

  - engine-config -s SpiceProxyDefault= (i.e., set it back to blank,
and also stopped Squid)
  - engine-config -s SpiceProxyDefault="http://10.20.37.104:3128";
(the internal IP of my ovirt-engine/all-in-one server. I also had
Squid started for this test)

The results were the same: SPICE console just stuck on "Connecting to
graphic server"

I think I really bollocks'd this one up and may need to do a fresh
install and try again.

- If you're using ovirt 3.4 make sure you set the cluster policy too

Using 3.3 from Yum repository.

Now I´m confused. By guest, I meant Virtual Machine guest, not your PC.
And by graphic packages, I was assuming you meant graphics _driver_
packages. Are we on the same track this far?

Re: [Users] node can not access disks

2014-02-10 Thread Gadi Ickowicz
Hi,

It looks like the node cannot find the vms' images (lvs) although it can see
the domain, which is very strange. Is this an iSCSI or FCP domain?

More logs would help understand exactly what is going on there. Also, could you
please paste the output of:
# lvs ce77262f-8346-42e5-823a-bd321f0814e7

on the problematic node and also from another node in the same cluster (if
possible)?

After getting the output of the lvs command, you can try to set the host to
maintenance and then activate it again from oVirt

Thanks,
Gadi Ickowicz

Subject: [Users] node can not access disks

Hi,

after node restart oVirt can not start any virtual machine due to
unknown storage error. Logs are here http://fpaste.org/75881/. It looks
like it can not read LVM. Is there any way how to fix that?

Thanks
