Re: [SOGo] Training
Good job, Jonathan! We didn't start from scratch but from a prior ZEG We asked Inverse to configure it initially, but I've learned how to manage and upgrade it along the way. I've downloaded the latest ZEG and will begin working through the differences (chiefly, Samba4) to see if I can repeat what I've learned. I believe that this is simply because all those things are heavily configurable and most of the tutorial I saw lacked alot of information. Hell, just postfix in itself is a beast when it comes down to the amount of possible option settings there is! I personally chose self training, by reading alot of the original manual, mixed with a few trial errors from some tutorials, more reading! and well, make a lab with some vm (I use virtual box..) and fix some objective... Then in the process you might have a better idea of what kind of course you're looking for and might even find it yourself ;p hehe, well that was just my 2 cents. no need to flame me on that :D in the process of building sogo I figured out that there is so much différent things you can use... Just as an example, I found out that you have Directory389, slapd, apacheDS or even freeipa. Oh well, sorry for the lack of reference, and good luck :) Jonathan G. -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists

Re: [SOGo] This page cant be displayed
Ok, Ive managed to work through the "This page cant be displayed" issue and now I'm on to the next. I log into SOGo with user name and authenticate fine but do not get my IMAP folders displayed. My SOGo server is stand alone and IMAP/Postfix are on a different server. Using Thunderbird I can authenticate and use email just fine no issues but SOGo gives me a Could Not Connect IMAP4 error. Re: [SOGo] FreeBSD port - LDAP authentication
Good day, Well, I'm back on this after a reinstall to see how things are looking. Here's the nice thing so far SOGo installed. I've got it working with PGSQL I believe I have it working with OpenLDAP with exceptions. Versions that we are playing with here: FreeBSD 9.1 RELEASE apache22-2.2.24 memcached-1.4.15 nss_ldap-1.265_7 openldap-client-2.4.35 pam_ldap-1.8.6_2 postgresql-client-9.2.4 sogo-2.0.5 sope-2.0.5 Sogo starts and runs Apache starts and runs Memcached starts and runs Anonymous ldap binding seems to run fine and I can grab a uid in the subtree. My LDAP server has a configuration like: dc=company,dc=com ou=people,dc=company,dc=com When I start up sogo, I get the following in the /var/log/sogo/sogo.log: Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: version 2.0.5 (build r...@.company.com 201306251909) -- starting Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: vmem size check enabled: shutting down app when vmem > 384 MB Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x8087b5988[SOGoProductLoader]> SOGo products loaded from '/usr/local/GNUstep/Local/Library/SOGo': Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x8087b5988[SOGoProductLoader]> MailPartViewers.SOGo, ContactsUI.SOGo, Mailer.SOGo, Appointments.SOGo, MainUI.SOGo, CommonUI.SOGo, SchedulerUI.SOGo, AdministrationUI.SOGo, PreferencesUI.SOGo, Contacts.SOGo, MailerUI.SOGo Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x808470438[WOWatchDog]> listening on *:2 Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x808470438[WOWatchDog]> watchdog process pid: 67881 Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x801c3bb60[WOWatchDogChild]> watchdog request timeout set to 10 minutes Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x808470438[WOWatchDog]> preparing 1 children Jun 26 16:06:03 sogod [67881]: <0x0x808470438[WOWatchDog]> child spawned with pid 67882 2013-06-26 16:06:03.695 sogod[67882] PostgreSQL72 connection established: <0x0x809cf20a8[PGConnection]: connection=0x0x809d7c000> 2013-06-26 16:06:03.695 sogod[67882] PostgreSQL72 channel 0x0x809cba048 opened (connection=<0x0x809cf20a8[PGConnection]: connection=0x0x809d7c000>) 2013-06-26 16:06:03.695 sogod[67882] PG0x0x809cba048 SQL: SELECT count(*) FROM sogo_user_profile 2013-06-26 16:06:03.696 sogod[67882] PG0x0x809cba048 SQL: SELECT count(*) FROM sogo_folder_info 2013-06-26 16:06:03.698 sogod[67882] PG0x0x809cba048 SQL: SELECT count(*) FROM sogo_sessions_folder H... looks fine in that we're connecting to PostGreSQL and everything checks out on the PGSQL side. I have just tried that now and it works!! Thanks However, I find this confusing, since I use dovecot and dovecot treats my password as md5-crypt. Allow me to also ask: Since I have isAddressBook = YES; , shouldn't SOGo populate my global addressbook by default? Mine remains empty... But my reluctance is that I don't understand SOGo, OpenChange, Dovecot, Samba4, Sope, etc. I was wondering if anyone knew or could tell me where I could get training in this area. Currently I have a basic understanding of Linux, but I'm looking for a cutting edge education. The local education places only support Samba3 which annoys me to no end. So in a nutshell, if I were to do some courses (online preferably) what is the recommendation? Also I just want to say brilliant venture, I love Linux so keep up the great work. Hello Steven, I have been following SOGo for several months now and played with the ZEG and tried to add SOGo to a Debian server. I think there is a long way to go with this before I can use it and I don't think it's a matter of training. I have used ClearOS 5.2 successfully for small businesses. With it's web interface it's very easy to get it to do all the things it's capable of such as file sharing, email and hosting the companies website. (I can't say the same about ClearOS 6) The 'Internet' defines lots of things for us, like how websites work, how email works and how DNS works. What it does not define is how address books work. All I want is a simple centralised database of email addresses that is shared by all email users in the company. Back in the 90's there was a fantastic thing called Lotus Notes which was the ultimate groupware. There are no open standards to let you create one in Linux. Whare are the IMAP and SMTP protocols for address books and calendars? I have no idea why people would create standards such as IMAP yet not carry on and create standards for address books. Unless it's so that Microsoft Exchange has no competitor in the Open Source area. Regards, Wayland. It supports CalDav and CardDav plus active sync capabilities with iOS and Android up to AS 14.1 But SOGo and the native Outlook support is a winner in my books, plus coupled with Samba 4 and goodbye Microsoft in a couple of years I would say. The trick I'm sure is to know how to set it up, but most importantly how to keep it running. Anyway I hoping that someone has an answer for my original question. Why are you constantly repeating yourself all over the mailing list? As mentioned, oh, a dozen times, those simple protocols already /exist/. Namely Card- and CalDAV. The Thunderbird plugins (or Android apps) just add those sync protocols to the existing calendar/address book; Apple iCal and Contacts.app, for example, can already be used natively. The Exchange Bloatware is only necessary because there is no decent way to integrate Outlook into a sane setup. Sogo uses LDAP (or Samba) because it aims at companies actually big enough to require them, there are more lightweight address book/calendar sync solutions building on Cal/CardDAV that can be used without a central domain (Owncloud and Davical, if I'm not mistaken). Again, with the same client infrastructure as the SOGo Server – SOGo Connector for Thunderbird, iCal/Contacts.app, Cal/CardDAVSync (Android), … > Then people can create the > plugins for the email clients and the web interface and the backend > server database interface etc to their hearts content. Outlook is a popular and competent email client but if I found another one my customers would use that. There used to be a little address book and calendar that looked like a filofax, it was fantastic and could even share it's file over the network so several people could use it. This was discontinued rather than developed further. I rather feel that the lack of a simple solution to this common and simple problem is deliberate. Novel Netware was very reliable but the corporation I worked for migrated away from this to TCP/IP which I did not understand at the time. The same corporation moved away from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange and I have never understood. I am becoming convinced that the way to solve this problem is to ignore the existing 'solutions' such as any Thunderbird plugins or MS Exchange or LDAP and create a very simple protocol. Then people can create the plugins for the email clients and the web interface and the backend server database interface etc to their hearts content. No one has to try and pretend to be MS Exchange. Re: [SOGo] select multiple emails in internet explorer
IE 8 had Enhanced Security settings, which we've removed from our Windows 2008R2 Server for other reasons (such as displaying remote application content - i.e., links to other apps within an accounting app) I'd suggest looking at removing that in IE 8 and standardizing the security options (admins to users) On 06/26/2013 11:07 AM, Giovanni Bechis wrote: On 06/26/13 17:01, Steve Ankeny wrote: works fine with 2.0.6 and IE 10 Not sure how it worked under IE 8 or 2.0.5a but I believe it worked correctly. with IE8 and 2.0.6 (from sogo.nu) the bug is present. [SOGo] Mail module not functional
Hi folks, first: I'm new here. Thanks for the great work on SOGo. Here is my problem, may be somebody can help: I compiled SOPE 2.0.6 and SOGo 2.0.6a on OpenSUSE 12.2 32-bit. GNUstep is from OpenSUSE repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/GNUstep/openSUSE_12.2 Everything looks good, I can start the service, I can login but if I change to Mail tab, I get the error in browser: An error occurred during object publishing the requested object could not be found! At this time I get a 404 return code in the logfile. On 26/06/2013 14:41, raymond wrote: Hi Wayland, thank you for your reply. I don't know if you will get this email, I have been kicked off the list by Ludovic Marcotte for my last comments. I am sure that the Sogo team is working hard and I really hope they crack the whip on MS Exchange server. We need people like the Sogo team. What frustrated me a bit was the fact that the Zeg is advertised on the site as a zero config test environment to see the product in action. The Sogo web GUI worked fine and the sending test mail with the interface worked fine but there was just no way Outlook stayed connected for me to see the results of using a native connection to outlook. I google'd the problem with Outlook and found some people who had the same issues but with no reply on how to resolve it, this is why I got a bit mad after discovering one post where someone commented on a user problem and one of the team suggested that they purchase a support pack. This is where I snapped and got the idea that the Zeg was not working and to get it to work you had to purchase support. Anyway I had another discussion and it just may be Windows 8 with outlook 2007 that is not tested with the Zeg and it could be a bug. Outlook has all the SP's 1-3 installed, firewall turned off, hosts set in windows etc etc... as per the docs but no luck to get outlook connected. If you don't use the exchange setup in outlook and you use the account (auto detect) option then the IMAP server is detected on the Zeg. By doing this you don't have Calendar synchronization, only mail items as you would expect from an IMAP server. One Sogo member on the list assured me that the Zeg works with outlook. So now I am in the process of testing WindowsXP with Outlook (2003 and 2007) and then will move onto Windows 7 with Outlook (2007) I addition I will be starting from scratch to configure CentOS 6.4 with Samba 4 and to see if I can get OpenChange running. Better to start from the bottom up. Regards, Ray Hello Ray, Indeed your message did not reach the group but my reply will. I messed around with ZEG for quite a while and even managed to make an installable ISO so I could run it on hardware. I don't know if the ZEG is up to date with the current SOGo but I had disconnection problems and very slow response. I tried Outlook XP and Outlook 7 on XP and Windows 7. It was obvious to me that this was not ready for my customers as I could not handle the frustration myself. I love Open Source software but it's a mystery to me what is motivating the developers. Is someone paying them? Do they thrive on people complaining about bugs? Are they planning on selling the whole thing to Oracle? Here's what I do. There are loads of small businesses with two or three computers and they struggle to share work without a server. I get a decent old computer and make a server using Linux. It acts as file storage and email server. It bugs me that they can't all use the same address book. Also these days people are using their smartphones for email. It's easy enough to get the smartphone to use the server for email but again no address book. The calendar function would be great. This market is dominated by Microsoft in the medium sized businesses and Google in the small businesses. I don't think it's good if people keep all their stuff with companies hooked into PRISM. One bloke died and another is on the run so that we could be told this blindingly obvious bit of info:- the worlds governments have all our emails and data. [SOGo] SOGo MySQL Authentication
Helloz, I am almost bald trying to get authentication using mysql working. The difficult part is how to tell what SOGo is exactly doing (debugging) so that I can fix it. I have in my sogo.conf: /* MySQL Authentication */ SOGoUserSources = ( { type = sql; canAuthenticate = YES; displayName = "Staff Members"; id = users; isAddressBook = YES; userPasswordAlgorithm = md5; viewURL ="mysql:// exim4u:XXX@127.0.0.1:3306/exim4u/sogo_auth_view"; } ); And I created a view on my DB as follows: CREATE VIEW sogo_auth_view AS SELECT user_id AS sogo_id, username AS c_uid, realname AS c_name, clear AS c_password, username AS c_cn, use rname AS mail, realname AS displayName FROM users WHERE enabled='1'; Which gives me: mysql> select * from exim4u.sogo_auth_view where c_name like '%wash%'; +-+-+-++-+-+-+ | sogo_id | c_uid | c_name | c_password | c_cn | mail| displayName | +-+-+-++-+-+-+ | 3 | w...@kictanet.or.ke | Odhiambo WASHINGTON | secret1| w...@kictanet.or.ke | w...@kictanet.or.ke | Odhiambo WASHINGTON | +-+-+-++-+-+-+ I am trying to login using username=w...@kictanet.or.ke and password=whateveritis but I always get failure... wrong username or password. Just can't get outlook to stay connected to openchange - I don't think it is a Sogo problem, the (ZEG) is not producing any workable solution. Seems like this project needs a lot of work still. Now I need to look at the costs of a Microsoft Exchange Server.. L not happy. Ray That LDAP thing makes you think that there is a standard for groupware but there is not :-( LDAP is a total pain. Far too difficult to use unless you are a genius, but then I would create something better if I was. I am sure there is a reason why the ZEG is not issued as an ISO. It's so you can't make a real server unless you go through the full pain. I did actually turn it into an ISO using a tool but it lost the GUI in the process. Re: [SOGo] Problem with outlook and ZEG - Need help please!
On 24/06/2013 13:39, raymond wrote: I am sitting watching the demonstration video of sogo on youtube and giving a big sigh!! Wondering how the hell did they get it to work. Must I purchase a support pack, yes or no. mmm "NO" if the demo doesn't work, I can just imagine how the support is going to work. Yes I know "the ZEG does works" but I am yet to experience a working demo with outlook as shown in the video on youtube. Phew, now that I had the opportunity to blow off steam I would like to apologise to the Sogo team. "If" you do have a working product then great stuff, just a pity you have not found a way to share it with people like me. Man I am so irritable at the moment I can shout it from the roof tops no reflection on Sogo... just me wanting something and not getting it... I am just tossing out my toys, banging my head against the wall and shouting at ants... And all because I can't figure out where I am going wrong with the outlook setup. Oh, look there is another ant... Good bye. Hello Raymond, I sympathise with you but also with the SOGo team. There is an obvious hole in what you can do with a Linux server. It's not necessarily that it does not act as an Exchange server but that the functionality of an email server beyond simply sending and receiving emails using Internet standards is missing. Microsoft protocols are usually very complicated, The SAMBA team have done fantastically well to make it work like Microsoft NT Server. The SOGo team are trying to do this for Exchange. What should happen is a set of open standards should be written. These would define how the client and the server talk to each other to handle address book data and calendar data. The server could then store it's data in whatever database suits it. This might be the companies own database or one which came with the service. The client could be an ipad or MS Outlook or Thunderbird. Whatever, no matter since this standard would be added to the client just like IMAP or POP is currently. Trying to reverse engineer a Microsoft product is a bit sad. It's all reflected glory. Open Office is like this. I could go on... Regards, Wayland. -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists

[SOGo] select multiple emails in internet explorer
Hi all, We are on 2.0.5a, and noticed that in internet explorer (8) we cannot select multiple emails in the web access. (using ctrl-click, or shift-click both don't work) Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just us..? MJ -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists
