Re: [Veritas-bu] Backup networks
I wish that the setup you describe would work, but it CAN'T. The backup job will assign a port on the NIC that receives the request. If the master (10.1.1.1) sends the request to systemA (10.1.1.10) to use the storage unit on mediaA (10.1.1.2), the data will travel over the NIC that the master sent the data on. If the master (10.1.1.1) sent the request to systemA (10.1.1.10) to backup using the storage unit on mediaA-b (backup nic 10.2.1.2) it would never work. If you use the required interface setting on the client, then the request MUST come in to the client on that interface and the data can ONLY go out on that interface. [Veritas-bu] Weird 52 error becuase it positions tape
Netbackup 5.0mp4 on Solaris 9 attached to an L700. I have a media manager which is connected to shared drives running SSO on an L700. All drives are up and visible. I kick a job off and it finds tapes, puts them in and start to position them but then times out and gives status 52. I have tried freezing the tapes so it uses different tapes. vmdareq on the master shows the media has reserved 2 of the drives, and the tapes are actually being put into drives as i can see under robtest and 's d'. Any 52 ive ever had before has been not able to see drives, drives down or the processes not running. Anyone any other ideas where to look? Cant see anything obvious in bptm log on the media server. Occasionally theres an unable to lock media offset something error but the rest all looks ok. This allows for a bit of outbound load sharing, but isn't really appropriate for load balancing incoming data (as you might want on a netbackup server). It does provide you with failover though, and you can balance the incoming traffic manually. If all you need is failover, then it may be sufficient. SunTrunking is an extra application that you can run on Solaris. It only supports certain hardware in certain combinations. It's a cost purchase for versions prior to Solaris 10. Solaris 10 can use SunTrunking as well, but also allows for link aggregation of any networking hardware that uses gld3 drivers. This is built into Solaris and doesn't require extra software. Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup - Active Directory
Active Directory is actually both in the registry of a domain controller and in several files on the disk, most notably - %SystemRoot%\ntds\NTDS.DIT. Suffice to say, you would probably never restore just the registry to a domain controller, you would restore the entire system in AD Restore Mode in which case yes, the C: and System State would be enough to restore the Active Directory. No special agent or policy is required. Your average ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES will do the job fine. -Jonathan From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of DLew97 Sent: Friday, December 01, 2006 11:43 AM To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup - Active Directory Hello, Can anyone confirm that it is my understanding that AD is backed up as part of the system state or shadow copy components directive, since it's part of the registry. The exit status that you see in the activity monitor is not necessarily the exit status of your backup. It is the exit status of the SCRIPT that NBU runs, which kicks off your RMAN backup. What we did to get around this, was to build one monolithic script, which parses input passed to it from NBU when any given Oracle policy runs. Based on that (and a few other proprietary things), the script shuts down the apps associated with the SID that is about to be backed up, shuts down the SID, brings it up in startup mount mode, then builds and executes the RMAN code. The trick, that we coded in, was that if RMAN fails, the script will exit with an artificial exit code, which in turn, gets passed to the activity monitor. Now, anyone that looks at the activity monitor, can trust the exit status of any given Oracle backup. --Steve Veritas Netbackup wrote: Hi All, I find it strange, say a RMAN backup has 3 streams, 2 of them complete and one of them does not appear et all.
