Re: [WISPA] Weather proofing antennas
Sorry about all the typos in my earlier post. As I mentioned, we use the wx2100. Over the weekend I had the pleasure of visiting one of our tower sites after a couple of day with freezing rain. I noticed that there was almost no ice on any of our dishes. Our neighbor seemed to have ice on his. The spray was applied this last summer so I don't know yet how often we will need to re-apply. It seeps to work just as well on out aluminum cushcraft yaggi antennas at customer sites. What I don't like about the wx2100 spray is: 1. The spray cans tend to clog up way before they are empty. 2. Very hard to apply to a dish already installed up on tower because of wind (understandable) and needs to be applied in relatively warm temp. 3. Treated surface should not be touched after treatment. This makes it a bit hard to get it up the tower and install. Points 2 and 3 are why I am considering paint. Having said all that, I am ordering more of the spray. -Adam On Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 8:10 PM, Adam Goodman wrote: > Yes, there is a spray (cheaper but doen n that the sattelite folks > use. Re: [WISPA] Weather proofing antennas
We quit using grids completely after they practically decomposed into a corroded blob at an installation at the Port of Maui a couple years ago. Now we use14db backfires wherever possible, or if we need more gain, panels like the ARC or pacwireless solid dishes. With their intrinsic radome, these seem to hold up very well for us. Just double-check the polarity markings which can be wrong. Use Sex Wax or something similar that is used for ski's. Pam doesn't cut it Bob Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry -Original Message- From: "Josh Luthman" Date: Thu, 11 Dec 2008 11:48:00 To: WISPA General List Subject: [WISPA] Weather proofing antennas I am curious to know if anyone does anything to prepare for lots of ice on grid antennas. [WISPA] Weather proofing antennas
I am curious to know if anyone does anything to prepare for lots of ice on grid antennas. I know that it is best to use a dish and cover where weather is prone to these kinds of things but some installs do not have the luxury. I have heard that spraying Pam (or some kind of oil, regardless of brand) should help for at least a few months - is this so?
