Peter, Thanks very much for the suggestion of a grey border on the other link styles - you're right, it looks good. I finally realised what was causing the bouncing; I had "padding-bottom: 2px" on the hover state, but not on active or visited - d'oh!! I'll get the hang of this one day... Mary Do you have a border on the a:link element?
