[Xastir-dev] LANGUAGE TRANSLATORS: Please take a look at the current files

2010-10-04 Thread Curt, WE7U

We're in code-freeze now, getting ready for a new STABLE release
within the next two weeks or so.

Please take a look at the language files in the xastir/config/
directory to see if any strings need translation. Use the language
files from the CVS HEAD version or the xastir199-2010-Sep-16.tgz
file available on SourceForge.

Send updates direct to me and I'll get them right in.

Thanks!

2010-10-04 Thread David

On 04/10/10 15:59, Curt, WE7U wrote:

The Xastir project will be in code-freeze in an hour.

One exception will be allowed: A patch to a MySQL setup script
that's still being worked out. This patch doesn't affect Xastir
run-time and we ran out of time to discuss the nuances. It should
get committed within the next 1-3 days.

Other than that one exception, these are the rules until we push out
the 'Stable' release:

*) Do not commit patches which add new enhancements.
  *) Only commit bug-fix patches.

We'll let the code settle for a week or two, then I'll ask for a
go/no-go vote. If people are reasonably happy with the stability,
we'll push the 'stable' out the door and lift the code-freeze.

Consider updating to the latest CVS 'HEAD' version and putting it
through its paces, plus report bugs quickly so we can get them
fixed. Various Linux distributions will be picking it up, so the
more stable we can make the codebase, the better.

If you've run it successfully before and it has updated to the
latest version, it should continue to work for you.

The trick is getting the initial tools installed to let
update-xastir do it's work. Things like autoconf and automake.

Hi Curt...tnx for the tips...i have used that command very often to get
the latest update
ive run it this time but it was showing vers 1.9.9 still so i wasnt sure
that i had got the vers you were talking about

love the program and the OSM maps are greatsaves having to add so

As I said, I just updated successfully for the first time just tonight. So
this will be the second time and it should go fine from here on out. Since
it took the 1.9.4.3 to 1.9.9 using the update-xastir file, I expect all is
there.

Go have fun with those boys and thanks. I will run the update after a week
has gone by.

[Xastir] Mac OSX errors

2010-10-04 Thread Nikita Bogdanov
Hello all,

I am somewhat new to APRS, and I am trying to setup and I-Gate using my MacBook
Pro. I have followed the directions on this page in order to install Xastir and
all dependencies: http://www.xastir.org/wiki/Macports. I installed OpenMotif,
and all but the db45 library, which gave me this error:

Nikita-Bogdanovs-MacBook-Pro:~ nikitabogdanov$ sudo port install db45

Nikita-Bogdanovs-MacBook-Pro:~ nikitabogdanov$

I installed Xastir successfully (at least I saw no blatant error messages), but
when I run it from the terminal window, this is what happens :

Nikita-Bogdanovs-MacBook-Pro:~ nikitabogdanov$ xastir

It looks like you downloaded and tried to use my binary package, and didn't
read the bold type on the page that instructs you to copy the app to the

If you've decided to go the MacPorts direction, you'll either have to edit your

I tried using the binary version after trying the MacPorts route, which
consisted of installing the dependencies (except for lib db45), but still had
the same behavior of an immediate closure after trying to open Xastir. So in
the
case of OS X 10.6.4 (which is what I am running), having the dependencies does
not seem to help the binary version work.

Re: [Xastir] Mac OSX errors

2010-10-04 Thread Chase Turner
Then, obviously, I am incorrect. I seem to recall there is a problem with
Macports installing db45- one must use an older version I believe. Macports
doesn't want to do it on 10.6.

After trying to build it all from source, mainly without a good instruction
set- what most linux/command line nerds seem to enjoy is watching newbies
such as myself struggle with substandard instructions and then snarky
comments when you ask a question; I gave up and used the binary.

Not sure how to make it work other than to knock out the file Jeremy
suggested, make sure the binary is in Applications and go from there. You
may need to find the hidden .xastir file- so check out how to do that in the
finder and you will be good as gold. Hopefully.

Re: [Xastir] Interface Control and USB-Serial

The PL2303 driver will create two devices in /dev after you plug the
adapter into your computer... /dev/cu.PL2303-# and /dev/tty.PL2303-#
where # is usually an 8 digit number based on the USB port ID.
Configure Xastir to use the /dev/cu.PL2303-# port for your TNC. Keep in
mind that plugging the adapter into another USB port will change the #
number.

Has anyone found any working entries for the TNC Port slot? I have looked at
the manual, and it states that for a Kenwood, you can enter /dev/ttyS0 for Com1,
but this does not work for connecting to my TNC. I think that my Mac cannot see

I am using an FT-250R as the radio by the way.

Subject: Re: [Xastir] Interface Control and USB-Serial

The PL2303 driver will create two devices in /dev after you plug the adapter
into your computer... /dev/cu.PL2303-# and /dev/tty.PL2303-# where # is
usually an 8 digit number based on the USB port ID.
Configure Xastir to use the /dev/cu.PL2303-# port for your TNC. Keep in
mind that plugging the adapter into another USB port will change the #
number.

Now that Xastir opens fine, the TNC does not connect, but this is most
likely my fault for now knowing what I am doing with my USB-Serial
 adapter. I am using a
PL2303 USb to serial adapter, connected a TT4 running the Byonics KISS
 TNC firmware.

Has anyone found any working entries for the TNC Port slot? I have
looked at the manual, and it states that for a Kenwood, you can enter
/dev/ttyS0 for Com1, but this does not work for connecting to my TNC.
I think that my Mac cannot see the adapter, even though I have used it
with XTerm before.

I am using an FT-250R as the radio by the way.
