I would love one.

If you you proceed, it would be nice if the applet allowed pluggable
backends. In this way, one applet would exist that would allow the
user to select one of a number of different editors to use (which
should keep the Brief users, the Emacs users, the Notepad users and the
Vi users all happy - provided they can be bothered implementing their
own backend).

2000-05-23 Thread Jim Sanford

Our entire site (5 MB data.fs - 97% form and
method objects, no data - that is kept in RDMS)
is hand coded in the little text boxes with
occasional CUT-PASTE IN EDITOR-
SEARCH-REPLACE-CUT PASTE
BACK TO ZOPE.

A simple Java applet that
just did search/search and replace and had
line numbers would be all I would need. I have
thought about how lovely such a beast
would be and although I am a whiz at javascript
I do not yet have the necessary Java skills to
implement such a wondrous thing.

Would be glad to help test it.

Subject: [Zope] Feedback Requested: Editor Applet for Zope?

Hi all,

I've been working with Zope for quite some time now, and one point that
always slows me down is DTML or SQL source editing in the well-known
wonderful textboxes. You all like them...

My question:
Do you like the idea of having a slim java-based editor applet instead
of the textarea?
(NO, not a 400k editor with WYSIWYG preview and an exotic scripting
engine - it's supposed to be _very_ slim)

Please give me feedback on this, because if the community wants such a
thing, I might start working on it.

Thanks in advance,
Heiko

Hello Heiko

Yes please!. Sounds like a great idea.
..and now for some wishlist slim features:

- maximise the text area horizontal + vertical quickly and easily [and then
store/fetch the prefs to/from a zope object or method somewheres]

- scale type [change font size + font]

- some basic coloring or styling please... in colorA, other
non-dtml tags in colorB, anythin in "" in colorC, etc.

- keep a scrolling list on one margin of DTML so that one can click on items
to allow faster more accurate code paste [yes I am a lousy typist adn dtml
is _so_ picky] . The list can be preloaded with the obvious and not so
obvious and also remembers recent chunks of dtml slilm 'history'.

maybe this request puts it over the size limit - but maybe not..:-)
