The alert is a function of nautilus and gnome-settings-daemon. The
first shows the error and the second one decides whether to automount or
not. Gvfs isn't really in a position to control how the detection events
are responded to.
Disabling device automount is the simplest way to avoid it.

This is an Ubuntu design decision to allow music to continue to play
unless the music is explicitly stopped or paused or the user clicks
File>Quit.
In Unity you can also click the sound menu in the top right area of the
screen to pause music from Rhythmbox.

Same here, after upgrade to 13.04.
Cannot apply proxy settings globaly.
It can introduce a lot of problems. For example, software updater doesn't pick
user proxy settings so it is unusable behind proxy.

I can report that the bug is present in Raring 13.04. I try to make
changes to speed using the system settings. Moving the levers to
change speed does not seem to have an effect and the lever changes are
not persistent (they are reset after reopening the mouse settings.
