I booted the thumb drive
I saw the WEP network, selected it, and entered the key all in Network Manager

Libre Office Writer Icons unreadability on YY and ZZ with I

My microphone (built in, or using the plug-in jack) works just fine in
16.04 with the Kubuntu backports PPA, but not in ZZ. This is in two
partitions on the same laptop. I think System Settings multimedia looks
the same in both 16.04 and ZZ.
Since it is the same piece of HW,
Changing the title of the bug report as Libre Office Calc icons are
readable, and tested on ZZ also.

I am sorry, I should have been more clear.
When I wrote Kubuntu 11.10, I meant a fresh install of the final version from
Kubuntu 11.10 ISO to a VMware Player.
And Muon always hung at 56% Running dpkg
My work-around outlined in my comment #16 was the only one that was successful
for me, and I trie

I deleted my Virtual Machines, re-installed from the .iso, and tried this
solution:

Step 1: Open a Konsole and type:
sudo apt-get update (I had to supply my password)
sudo apt-get upgrade (It asked me if I was willing to give it space

I installed two .iso images using VMware Player.
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 successfully and was able to perform all software
updates.
I installed Kubuntu 11.10 successfully, but was *NOT* able to perform all
software updates, and it hung at 56% Running dpkg .

I can confirm both the alternating behavior with Fn Up Arrow as well as the not
restoring full brightness when I swipe across my Dell Latitude D620 trackpad.
