Category: win32(unknown) Group: gtk bug #153219 >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Gschmidt2 (gschmidt2) Assigned to: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Summary: New Message Window Location Initial Comment: When a new messaging window appears, users with the windows taskbar at the TOP of the screen cannot move the messaging window; the messaging window top toolbar gets covered up by the windows taskbar, making it impossible to grab and drag the window somewhere else. The only fix is to "lock" or "unlock" the windows taskbar briefly, which in turn moves the messaging window down very slightly, and the messaging window can then be dragged. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2005-12-21 10:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Gaim does not remember conversation window locations. The reason that it is placed at (0,0) instead of using the automatic Windows new window placement is a bug in GTK+. An alternative workaround is to right-click the taskbar entry of the window and select the "Move" option, then to use the arrow keys to start moving the window. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Beardsmore (uilleann) Date: 2005-12-21 07:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=473078 This could also be solved by a fix that centres (to the screen) or remembers the position of the window: http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=artifact&exact=1&forum_id=0&group_id=235&atid=350235&words=window+position&Search=Search Lots of prior requests for that feature. A workaround for all programs in general under Windows that shove resizable windows under the taskbar: click the window border. This triggers Windows to move the window down a few pixels so that you can at least reach the title bar. Also, (and this works even if the window is not resizable) press alt-space to invoke the control menu, M for move then press down arrow to initiate move; now, you can move it with the mouse. Or, right-click the taskbar icon then Move and continue the above steps. But to do this every single time gets really annoying really fast. This is not a gaim bug as such because the same problem occurs in native Windows programs! Hell, the Get Info in Mac OS X Tiger opens with the bottom of it under the Dock! (argh) But gaim memorising all window positions would help here quite a bit :) Only have to move each one once and you're sorted. </taskbar-and-dock-at-top-of-screen-guy> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=680472&aid=1386617&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
