Did you type ./firefox ? If you simply type firefox, it will open the
one installed in the system. i suggest that you wait till your
distribution to packages it for you. It shouldn;t take very long. If
you are using Ubuntu, mozilla has already packaged it for you. How to

I do use gEDA out of academic interest, though not that often. I am
more interested in it for device and circuit modelling (just starting
to learn it).
We used to have discussions about gEDA in relation to the Fedora
