Enforcing DRI3 indeed solves the issue, but it generates recurring artifacts
where parts of the screen seem to flicker until they're repainted. SO it's a
workaround at best, but not a solution.

Alt-F2 brings up krunner.
Run "pkill -f plasmashell"
Alt-F2 again:
Run "plasmashell"
Repeat as needed.
