Chris, apologies for delay. Just tried the latest availabe build
3.18-rc6 and, like rc3 build that I tried, the issue is 100%
reproducible. As soon as I open the lid to resume from suspend, the
login screen comes up and the system freezes.

I tested an old 13.04 disk ( I don't know if I have a 13.10 around), and
it gave numerious Unity/Compiz crash warnings, and on low-battery it did
try to shut down and immediatly came back up like in Trusty.

Why is doing anything on launchpad always a battle? This is not going
to be fixed in the linux kernel or the radeon xorg driver. Never ever
