Another reason I would never use POP on any mail server is, I like to filter
all my inbound email into separate folders like one for each list I'm
subscribed to. You *CANNOT* do this under pop. I use gmail's host based rules
to do this and this way I get the same folder structure on all my devic
HI Teresa,
When you updated, did all your messages saved in the [IMAP]/Archive folder–that
is, Mail's special Archive folder–get merged with all your archived messages in
All Mail? Or does this still remain a separate, but now redundant, folder in
Mavericks?
Thanks,
Nic

I’m having a few hiccups with syncing, but that’s pretty much it. I didn’t
disable all mail either all along, so the only messages that had to sync were
the archived ones, which apple Mail doesn’t keep separately anymore. Gmail has
never kept Archived messages separately, either.

Hi Matthew,
I checked my Gmail settings and I too did not disable all mail. Hopefully
things will go smoothly when I upgrade. When I bought my Macbook Air, the
techs set up my email at the store.
Thanks,

HI Janet,
NO, if you use POP your mail won't sync between your devices. That's the huge
advantage of IMAP, that it keeps your mail synced on all devices. So long as
you have All Mail turned on in gmail settings on the server side, it seems
gmail and Mail are now playing reasonably nicely with mo
The idea of using Pop on your iPhone and Mac is so all mail is
downloaded locally and not managed on the server. You re-configure your
mail account in settings on the iPhone and System Preferences on the
mac. There is also an accounts option in Mail itself so you can do it there.

Hi,
did you disable IMAP on your gmail account via the web site?

I confused Mail by first entering an incomplete Gmail address then
completed it later in the setup process. I then had the ability to
choose either imap or pop.

How do I switch my gmail to pop3? Whenever I go to reset my gmail since with

it automatically picks imap again.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your response. Do I make the changes in Mail preferences or on the
Gmail website. Also, since I'd be using a Pop server, would the messages sync
between my iPhone and Mac?
Thanks again,
Janet

No problem if you use Gmail via Pop3. Just make sure to tell Mail to
never remove messages from the server if you have multiple devices.

Hi Everyone,
Since my Gmail address is my primary email address has anyone been able to
install Mavericks and not have a problem with Gmail? I'd like to update to
Mavericks and changing my email address would be a real pain.
Thanks,
Janet
