This is the first time I've birded Prospect Park so I haven't translated the

Searching for the 2 Greater White-Fronted Geese reported yesterday by Angus
Wilson, my sister Barbara and I went to the Further Lane field in East
Hampton around 11:00 AM Sunday. First one, then a second goose revealed its
orange legs. Wanting better views, we waited and searched for the CACKLING
A lot of people out today but no sightings of the California Gull, Mew Gull,
or presumed Common Gull. An adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen in
Lewiston-Queenston by a few lucky people. This bird was seen opposite the

We went to Brooklyn to see if we could find the Mew Gull. As we were
walking over the footbridge, we noticed a small flock of gulls (about 50 or

Only 2 of the previously reported 7 Greater White-fronted Geese were seen
at Belmont Lake State Park between 7:20 and ~9:00 this morning by myself
and several other birders. Also seen was a single Cackling Goose, also
likely the previously reported individual. Other notable species among

This evening Tracey Shimer and I saw 5 Short-eared Owls at SGNWR in
Shawangunk, NY. They were perched conspicuously for quite a while and
at one point all 5 were in the air in a tight group but they soon
settled down again. Just as the light was waning they started to
become more active.
