The standard install of subversion on a recent Mac is 1.7.10. Is the 1.8.8
backwards compatible with earlier clients? I have only used newer clients
with older repositories, newer the other way around.

Thanks for the information. It's the old story -- it's only once you
finally convince yourself that the problems are always on your end and
never bugs in the other guy's (development) code that you actually
encounter bugs in the other guy's code.
