I've digged thru the activities and I found that SocialCalc was using
hulahop as well. SocialCalc is running fine on my sugar-jhbuild so I
thought I could just try to understand how to start a hulahop instance
from the code there.
I attach the result of this experiment. This is the *simplest* py
I'd go for index.html
but maybe it's pretty common and...that's for devs :)

If not, what are the other decisions that have been made?
I think the current Help doesn't need to be upgraded, as it contains

csound-python contains the following files (which might be useful :-) )
# rpm -ql csound-python

As likely expected, the output to your first command is:
csound-5.10.1-9.f11.i586
and to the second, nothing.

The comparison to Java is a good one. I program in Java for a living
and find that I tend to think of my Activity logic in Java terms then
translate the concept to Python. I do the same thing with pygtk and
Java Swing. Last night I removed most of the leading underscores from
my code.
