Hi,
What about a vernier dividing plate?
A plate or disc is divided into, say, 360 holes plus a center hole. Over this
is placed a second disc or arm with 10 holes taking up just 9 deg. which gives
a vernier precision of 1/10 deg. The laser could be fixed to the top plate

I understand that there are goggles that let the laser line show up in

I am attaching my custom laser trigon, the image is

I use it for dials about one foot square with gnomons
of copper sheet. Errors creep in quickly as the dial
plate expands in size.
Alignment takes some time, and involves the rotational
axis being well aligned with the style, and

Over the last while I have been thinking about a laser trigon. Not one made
out of brass with precision engravings and a high cost to go along with it.
But one made out of rigid styrofoam board and scales printed on card stock
and a low cost to go along with it. I realize that it
Hi Alexei,
I have built a "lightweight laser trigon" from a laser pointer and some
scraps of perspex. As well as producing hour lines and declination lines on
arbritrary surfaces, the trigon also has an attachment that allows it to
project analemmas about any hour line.
I have writ

Hello sundial friends
Some time ago I read on some website about a Laser Trigon - which was a
laser fitted onto an equatorial axis which I believe simulated the sun and
could be used for the projection of the sun rays on any surface.
However I have no idea where I saw this and would be grateful
