Some relief can come from remembering to turn off the physical switch
for the wireless card before you boot your machine. Once Ubuntu is up,

Well, I need to see that "fix". Tried with the option "radeon.modeset=1"
and "pci=nomsi" options with 2.6.31-20-generic. Did not seem to get
modesetting 1 at first, had to kill gdm and set it manually. Tried
suspending - the good old problem remains.

For me this only happens when compiz is activated. I tried the old fix
of gconf-editor and changing the cursor theme in compiz but this had no
effect, i.e., the /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/cursor_theme
key.

For me the cursor goes to comix regular in Compiz on the desktop but

If the mountall push tomorrow doesn't fix this, the next thing to try is
to capture a mountall log by editing /etc/init/mountall.conf to add '--
debug > /dev/mountall.log 2>&1' to the exec line, then review the
contents of that log for clues.

Josh: Your patch modifies Makefile.am without updating Makefile.in or
causing the packaging to run automake. So it fails to build the new
object and dies with a linker error.
After fixing that, it seems to work for me on the examples from this
bug, such as ubuntu-manual-draft.pdf.
