What can I say? Terrible terrible terrible...
Instead of upgrading this, my 3rd maverick machine, from lucid, I decide
to do a clean wipe. I install Windows 7 from usb, giving it a smallish
50GB partition, leaving ~450GB free. Very straightforward. Then, I boot
up the livecd off usb, choose instal
Given that sysvinit does do the unmounting, its actually probably more
likely that it is the culprit than mountall.. so I've added a bug task
for sysvinit.

patch). Other things might need to be fixed for other drivers. For

I can confirm this on 10.10. We need to pull in

For natty we will probably pull in 2.3.2 which includes this fix.
Anyway, I have attached a debdiff for natty, so it can be teste

partitions. Happens 95% of the time... hard to not shutdown a laptop,

Hey Jim,
I wish to close the bug.
Just saw it was a permission problem in the log.
I added write permission and it worked out fine.
10x for the response and my apology for the mistake.
Maybe its better to add an error with missing permission if it fails on
permission.

* uninstall openoffice completely (which caused thie funny dependency)
* upgraded to 10.10
* re-installed openoffice completely
