I'm seeing a similar bug to this too, except only one or two fonts are
replaced with a square/rectangle char.
Changing postscript level within the ppd file only works around the

Yes, I have the "Fn+F3" combination and a hardware switch for wireless
connections. The hardware switch only seems to turn everything off,
since it's light only goes off and with the "Fn+F3" I get no reaction.

I confirmed the bug using a VM installed with up to date Oneiric with
the German layout.
It seems like the keyboard layout isn't configured that early in the
boot and we probably want to change that to at least try to set the
proper layout before starting recovery.

after having kernel upgrade with the latest one from kernel-ppa/pre-

network-manager started working after an update the next morning.
As for comment #3, this bug was originally observed with no entries
other than for 'lo' in /etc/network/interfaces. Network-manager was not
functioning and its icon was not visible on the top panel.
