I tested the PDF from comment #14. But you are right - it doesn't really
work, it seems like Okular is caching the page margins. So the following
works (at least for a few pages):
* open Okular (with trim margins and background color disabled)
* set page background
* enable trim margins

Trim margins works for me with the given PDF, even when a different
paper colour is set (Okular 0.21.3, KDE 4.14.9 on openSUSE 13.2)

That's strange, I was able to reproduce this about a month ago with git master.
Did you test with a non-Image PDF (of white background)? Have you tried

Okey, I just managed to trace and dump the process activity into a zipped log
file using 'strace' command.
I don't know if it'll help, but it's better than nothing, since the system
doesn't show any process cracs warning or activity dump.
By the way, my distro is Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS amd64

I have this bug too, on Ubuntu 15.04, running on a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga
12.
A workaround that works for me is to run "sudo iwlist scan". After the
scan completes, the list of networks is updated in the network applet.
But of course I agree that having to do this is irritating.
