It happened to me when updating 2 x Raspberry Pi 2B from 14.04 to 15.10.
The solution is to add:
Machine: Raspberry pi 2 Model B
Machine: BCM2709
Kernel-Flavors: rpi2
Boot-Kernel-Path: /boot/firmware/kernel7.img

Into: /usr/share
There was a mistake in my last post, the path should be:
/usr/share/flash-kernel/db/all.db

by hand in /boot to point to the 3.18.0-25 versions.

Seems to be caused by the custom boot loader I'm using, it unpacked the files
into a subdirectory in the pen drive.
During configuration of the initramfs-tools I get the error "cp: cannot create
regular file ‘/cdrom/casper/initrd.gz.new’: No such file or directory"

The Pi 2 build of UBuntu MATE is not supported by Canonical. It is a
community supported build. It currently uses the Linux kernel provided
by the Raspberry Pi foundation, which is provided as a binary only.
Please raise this discussion over at the Ubuntu MATE community.

I'm on Ubuntu Gnome on an Asus Transformer TP500L. This package was
included automatically when adding fs support to edit rom images.
However, installer itself did not flag an error, the system did after
installer finished. (Synaptic)

I had the same problem yesterday when i tried to upgrade my Pi2 from 15.04 to
15.10.
My installation is quite standard on a sd-card. i have an usb-stick only for
swap and /tmp.

Also happened to me when attempting to upgrade from ubuntu mate 12.04 to
12.10 for Raspberry Pi2. Tried also to install 12.10 image to formatted
micro sd (twice) but upon first booting, could not get any image on
monitor. Went back to fresh image of 12.04 and tried upgrading to 12.10
again and th
