I've switched from Evolution to Thunderbird and hardly ever have crashes
now. I will see if I can replicate the bug and post a comment if I can.

I start it from a shortcut on my gnome panel, usually. Certainly the
majority of instances of this problem has been when evolution was
started like this, although I'm almost sure it's happened when it was
started from the menu. I never run it from the terminal.
