I have configured the System Load Indicator. After stopping it, unity-
panel-service stops consuming CPU and works fine. In classic gnome,
System Load Indicator is consuming cpu. So I think this can be a good
clue.

I don't have seconds display enabled, but I have some extra indicator
applications installed.
Also the bug with date not updated when first clicking the time
indicator is back...
