I upgrade 6.10 to 7.04 online. After upgrade, I can not play rmvb movie
files by totem-xine correctly. The movie is played, with no sound.
Have tried replacing totem-xine by totem-gstreamer and all suggested

I downloaded w32codec_20061022-0.0_i386.deb from debian and upgraded the

i have solve my problem : the error come after the message Kinit
it's due to udev script : all script in /etc/init.d with extension .new_pkg
must be renamed without .new_pkg
and the filesystem / is mount with readonly right
so i issue the command : mount -o remount,rw /
and now gnome starts ...

All right, I managed to resolve the issue by creating a new user(gave
the user full admin permissions) and by doing chown + chmod.
A big thanks goes to the fine folks at #ubuntuforums-beginners for

I have followed Ben's advice, using modprobe piix, and got Feisty installed on
my parallels guest (in a mac mini). After rebooting to the installed system
(again using modprobe piix) I put piix into the initramfs modules file and ran
the update. On the next reboot I am still prompted by busybox
given the above, why build-essential is not required or suggested in
package dependencies for gcc.?

I don't know if this is important - My Thinkpad T60p has a trackstick
and a touchpad. I remember these to be working both with (k)Ubuntu 6.10.
With some update already with 6.10 the trackstick stopped working. As it
was not so important for me because I don't use it I did not follow this

I should add the following:
I'm running Kubuntu only (no dualboot) on a IBM T60 (Product ID:
2007WU4). It has 2 Gb of RAM, so there shouldnt be a memory allocation
problem because of insufficient RAM. I had no other applications running
at the time of the bug.

lrm-video is doing the correct thing. I'm wondering if the mismatch has
gone away and the problem you are now seeing is something different.

A solution that doesn't involve copying bash31 from an edgy system is as
follows:
sudo vi /lib/firehol/firehol (replace vi with you editor of choice)
and replace all %q strings with %b.
This is what they've done in gentoo to solve the problem.
