Actually, this sort of thing is what HAL is for. When HAL recognizes
the laptop, it can do things like setterm and so on. I don't have
nearly as many laptops as Matthew Garrett, who's recently refactored
some .fdi files for this sort of thing; he may have fixed your laptop in

During the development phase, I think it's always preferable to do a
merge with Debian than to cherry-pick changes unless we know of a
specific reason that the Debian changes are unsuitable.

I'm having the same problem with a Zaurus SL-5500. However, I'm not able to
successfully load the zaurus module.
I've downloaded the linux-source-2.6.24 module, played the .config game, and
compiled the zaurus module (as "make drivers/net/usb/zaurus.ko"). Two things: I
get a .o file, not a .ko
And it's even faster on my PDA which is running windows mobile 6. What's
the point of this kind of comparison? Talk in numbers. Is it much slower
than other Ubuntu boxes?

I'm still having this issue, while I would presume that the bugfix would have
gotten to the mirror by now.
the current update with ubuntu through "sudo aptitude reinstall thunderbird" is:

Ubuntu better. The KDE 4.1 packages are not packages from the official
backports repo, they are only provided in a community driven ppa.
Backports for hardy provide KDE 4.0.5 and unfortunately there is no
kdepim for that version.

I think we can drop this bug as it appears to no longer apply. This bug
existed right before (beta) the release of Ubuntu 8.04, but has been
since fixed. I have uploaded 8.04 several times since the release with
no problems connecting to my router.
