Nagios monitoring system silently failed to run any checks after the
change, needing to be restarted.
Why does nobody out there care that the repositories for an LTS release
of Ubuntu STILL only offer the same buggy version of N

so and ran into this issue shortly afterwards in November 2010 (our last

and so was not doing anything, but this was not immediately obvious.

once per hour, check_ntp_time reports "Offset unknown" causing Nagios to

Interestingly rebuilding 265-3ubuntu2 with DEBUG enabled... the code
path of do_child_atfork() isn't even hitting (no debug statements from
that function emitted). do_child_atfork() is where the proposed fix
touches.
Additionally, I backleveled my trusty VM to 264-2.2ubuntu4. The
testreproduce

When using snmp plugins, the plugin is not listed when telneting into
port 4949 and running a list. If you remove the hostname from the
symlink so the name is 'snmp__if_multi' for example it will be listed
but obviously not work.
