I have been using merging in MS Word for printing labels for a museum's
jukeboxes. I cannot figure how to do this using my doc files with Libre Office,
as it wants me to create new files, and much work doing custom layouts in Word.

What (type of file) are you merging into your doc file?
Tentatively, you should just be able to change the fields in your doc
file so that LO recognises them as mailmerge fields (I don't think
it'll automatically recognise them).

did not just let me merge the template I used in MS Word using the same date
sheet in either a .doc file or an .xls file. I was hoping there was a easy
substitution without redifining the fields. I will experiment
