Even though I changed the password I still cannot authenticate. I can telnet
to my server on port 110.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish ?
From what you're saying, I am thinking that you
want to change the password for the XMail

Positive I mean to me it makes no sense. My environment is as follows
2 Virtual machines
Windows XP machine - IP address 10.1.1.17 (fresh install, outlook
thunderbird mail clients, no AV, no firewall)
Gentoo Machine - IP address 10.1.1.200
A port scan of the Gentoo machine reveals ports
