2000-01-11 Thread Dan Sicko
Just wanted to let the list know that Detroit ex-patriate and ex-313 lister
(if I remember correctly) Jon Santos is featured as one of the FRESH Forty
Designers under Thirty in the JAN/FEB issue of I.D. (the American one,
not the UK one).

It's on page 71 and the article is entitled "Uncommon Senses."

Way to go Jon!

P.S. His design for the Throw Record "Too Many Clowns, Not Enough Jokers"
is shown as well.

Theo Parrish's- related 12":

1) Essential Selections vol.1 (Sound Signature)
is that a sort of compilation or is just a normal release with that name?
2) Sound Signature Presents: 2
... I don't know anything else about this one; it includes 3 cuts
"Good Kiss" produced by Rick Wihite
"Blue Out" produced by Theo Parrish
"Transit" produced by Kenny Dixon Jr.
Does anyone have more details on this one? I mean: is it a Theo Parrish's
release or what???

I also got Underground Evolution's "Primordial Passage" on Peace Frog which
I really like... does any of you have and/or like this one

Thanx a lot

For some reason it reminds me of an even more twisted version of

the "stalking" track is by Paris the Blak Fu actually

i thought it was by Paris the Black Fu and Jock Costeau? (with all respect

this record in total is a great chunk of comedy and example of paris. theres
sketches in the biggining of the record with paris doing two characters and
playing out a psuedo kung-fu movie with paris the black Fu as one of the
ppl. he also does this grandma-ish thing at the end telling ppl to go buy
the record.

you forgot the best part of the vocals when it goes something like
"you walk away, i watch your butt, muhahahaha'. in this dark, wicked witch
of the west voice. my records are disorganized now, or id get it out to be
exact on the lyrics. really dark track though. the spooky side of paris.if
there is one? with my record i also got these poster like deals with a great
shot of paris' tongue.

(313) New Burnt Freidmann album on Scape label...

2000-01-11 Thread Lance @ Inaudible
Just got a preview of the forthcoming Burnt Freidmann & the Nu
Dub Players album, called Just Landed, on Pole's ~Scape label. The
album, which follows the Burnt Freidmann & the Nu Dub Players
Do Not Legalize It ep, also on Scape, contains nine new tracks all
firmly 'rooted' in the classic instrumental dub sound with only
light electronic touches like ocassional warm melodic synth beds
and sparse complex drum programming. But overall this has a very
deep classic sound that Lee Perry, King Tubby, Mad Professor,
and Wackies Rhythm & Sound fans should all enjoy. Here are the
release details:

. Burnt Freidmann & the Nu Dub Players: just landed cd/lp (~Scape 004)
  Tracks:
  - hut selector
  - just landed
  - cassock attack
  - worldwide watchdog peepshow
  - railway palace, melbourne
  - hohoura head far north
  - i shot the fahion victim
  - it's thunder
  - dub to the music

My only complaint is the length of this album which clocks
in at just of 36 minutes. But for that short period of time, Just
Landed is a deep groovy head-bobbing journey. Scape continues
to impress.

Release date is mid february.

Yes, it's true. My original statement was...

Folks, things are not what they seem. Then again, they are. Dirk commented
about other folks coming to "milk the cashcow" or some other crap like that.
He wasn't joking. He was telling us about how he would set us up. This
is all rumor, so I'll need a minute to get this all straight, but the word
is that the two individuals responsible for the "creation" of this rip off
track are now moving from Sony to BMG. I don't think I have to tell you the
odds for BMG putting this track on the guys' debut release as a "legitimate
cover". His response was meant to give the impression they were backing
down so that folks would ease up on them. Media would say, "hey, it's over,
no need to write about this," angry fans would rejoice and stop bothering
them, and so on. Many of you went for it. Many did not. Bottom line is,
this is not over. I'm preparing a more direct statement to Dreyer and
others, but Sony has made their intentions clear by being absolutely silent.
Even "allies" at Sony Japan are now refusing to communicate with us.
Whatever hope of any positive outcome with Sony has been destroyed. They're
fucking laughing at us. I don't think it's very funny.

...since then, I recieved this (edited by me)...

statement to the press and the promotion company Public Propaganda DJs
before christmas telling the story. It is printed in Raveline. contact
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

...I have no doubt that Dreyer was paid nicely for the track. There's no
way BMG could get it without Sony's approval (good Lord, what am I
saying?!?), uh, yeah, anyways, you can't tell me BMG did this without Sony's
involvement. Other parts are making more sense to me. The producers of
this track are from Cologne. Wouldn't you know, Dreyer is a DJ(?!?!) at a
club there. (Too incredible to believe? Check out

It just kills me because these majors are basically uniting, saying, "we can
all gang up on you, so the hell what." I'm trying to hook up with folks
beyond the techno community on this because, hell, I figure, there's a lot
of us, too. Some folks thought I was being reactionary, but look at what is
happening. I think if anyone thinks that this stops with UR, you're

The tracks is pretty dark and creepy (long gong and

mix is called "scratch and sniff." its a great acid
track, although i think the fact that the sound of
scratching and sniffing is in the track is a little
too obvious.

I'll be playing it during our Seismic Shoutcast here in Portland on Friday
night. Absolutely a classic. It's not just the lyrics, it's that slightly
demented vocal :)

I played it on my Plug Research radio show (#2), at
http://www.plugresearch.com. Sandwiches comes in around 15:30. For those of
you who may have tried to listen over the weekend, there was a problem with
the RealAudio file (it was only streaming at a very low rate), but it's now
fixed and the show will stream at multiple rates, from 33.6 up to dual ISDN.
