I'm just waiting for his return to the U.K. On a production note I can't really comment but I do like the remix of 'Air Frog' (the only record of his I own!) [313] European festivals?
Hi everybody, I'm aiming to make the long hall to Europe for the northern summer (probably for the bulk of June/July), and was wondering what people pick to be the best music festivals on over that period. I'm aware of the bigger ones, so tips on lesser known/more localised events are welcomed as well... and website/contact details where possible. RE: [313] Kirk Degorgio
... so I really doubt he's explored his head to the extent he needs to, to produce something truly outstanding. But I believe he will. To me, the As One thing is a tight LP, good quality and from the heart ... but doesn't got the last, great step. Not quite. As far as the new album goes I agree, but I'll also add that, in my opinion, he has already taken this great step and produced something truly outstanding with the Planetary Folklore LP back in 97. An absolute classic. Respect JasonB - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [313] stacey pullen - electric relaxation
Thx, I also have a similar query with the 1st Model500 LP on cd - that seems quieter too, but I guess the explanation might be the same ... rather than an audio equipment problem. (Excuse my atrocious grammar, earlier - I'm trying to do other things in between rapping about more interesting stuff so I rush occasionally.) ... I blame Tom Stiehler who masters for Tresor - on those CDs everything seems 'up' in the mix, crystal clear and hard ... one gets habituated to expect that kind of sound. -Original Message- From: Ian [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2002 10:05 PM To: Odeluga, Ken; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Org Subject: Re: [313] stacey pullen - electric relaxation on 1/24/02 5:54 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It's melancholy but upbeat at the same time ... By the way, cd owners, do you find that it is 'quieter' than normal, certainly than more recent stuf you may have, or do I have a (audio!) equipment problem? More likely related to EQ than anything. The CD release does not appear to be lower in overall volume, but has tons of high frequency stuff, and is pretty soft on the bass end. If your system is geared in the opposite fashion, or if you simply dig bass, it might appear to be quieter than other CDs. -- im - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Pardon my ignorance but the drum and bass people around 5 years ago were all doing variations on a fat bassline sound, which they called a Reese bassline. [313] The Reese bass
HmI believe I stand corrected here, although I would like some clarification on this. So the Reese Bass that was used in Jungle/DNB back in 1994 was sampled from Kev Saundy? I did some searching and this appears to be the case, however, is it just a coincidence that Alex Reese was floating around at this time in Jungle/DNB, and he had nothing to do with it? That's really odd, because everyone I have ever known in the jungle/dnb scene has thought the Reese Bass comes from Alex Reese... If this is the case, what is the name of Kev Saundy's tune where this bass comes from, cause I'd like to hear it. *learnsomethinneweveryday* Ian Scott aka DJ Entropy [EMAIL PROTECTED] (bhpc, cheesestep rec., n.e. hardcore, raverporn.net, neverworld, boston) http://www.djentropy.comhttp://www.ne-hardcore.com Upcoming gigs: http://www.warblevx.net/djentropy/upcominggigs.html There is no ONE right way to live - Daniel Quinn Producers: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/us-production Educate the narrow minds, they see what they want to see. Re: [313] RE: (313) RE: (313) stacey pullen - electric relaxation
I was disappointed to see Stacey in the backroom of the End a year ago. It was the Plus8 night with Mr C, Hawtin and Acquaviva in the other room. Stacey was playing a slow jamming house set and more or less sitting down. I was gutted at this point because I had gone all the way to see him especially. I remember seeing him in 95-97 play sets at Voodoo and he was tearing it up. Very different style of djing, all top end mixing so it was like a watery sound just like his album in parts. This is a lot harder to mix like this as you can notice when the hats start to go out quicker than a kick but he was always premier league. Maybe he hasn't felt the need to perform as hard these days or suffering from a change in direction but I certainly wouldn't write him off. Fair enough though if you have seen him 4 times and he hasn't delivered for u. - Original Message - From: :P [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org; Niko Tzoukmanis [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 25, 2002 2:31 AM Subject: Re: [313] RE: (313) RE: (313) stacey pullen - electric relaxation is Staceys release work good? his the shittiest DJ I've even gone to see 3-4 times -Joe -- R17 is not a fixed velocity, but it is clearly far too fast. -- - Original Message - From: Niko Tzoukmanis [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2002 7:43 AM Subject: RE: [313] RE: (313) RE: (313) stacey pullen - electric relaxation rs still exists, latest releases afaik is air frog 'bon voyage' with a remix by... stacey pullen ;O) At 12:41 24.01.02 -, you wrote: Wow, the end of an era then. Probably been answered already but yes, it's the same Reese - (NOT Alex Reese either!) I doubt it's necessary to sample it though - it's relatively easy to produce I understand from my lil bro' with an er 808? Is it? I'm sure I'll be told. n/eway, he says only a fool would sample it - unless of course you don't have the required kit ... The Reese Bassline that people were talking about in the jungle/dnb world does come from Alex Reese. Does it bollocks. It comes from Kevin 'Master Reese' Saunderson - a track like 'Human Bond' is a good example of his use of the sound. Alex Reece (note correct spelling of his surname) has absolutley nothing to do with it... Cheers, Tom - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

i played drum and bass for 5 years and was pretty into that scene in Boston, where i lived at the time. other dnb head friends from coast to coast pretty much all respected adam f. but then again, most dnb people love to hate almost anyone anyway, admittedly. colors metropolis brand new funk were all adam f anthems, all from around the same time though. good to see he's moving on. lk On Fri, 25 Jan 2002, Odeluga, Ken wrote: Name another Adam F classic, except Colours :o)? ... I remember the night you're talking about although I think I was mainly in the main room for Hawtin Aquaviva that night. I caught him the time before at The End and that was only about a month earlier. That time was the first time I heard him spin and I liked what I heard, all good dancefloor material. I imagine this style to be a more typical Pullen set, somewhere in between techno house but all excellent tracks to dance to. After that night I remember going record shopping looking for Stacey Pullen material as I was so impressed by what I heard. My point is really that he must have played a lounge set in the lounge, let him play in the main room and you'll get the harder side of Pullen - unless you're at Motor of course ;o) GG - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So the final verdict on DJ Pullen? :o) I vote yes (as in I think he's 'good'). My reasons is that he's versatile and competent. Any reports to the contrary I'd attribute to fatigue or deliberate archness. Someone said that one of the nights upon which it's claimed he played poorly there were a lot of 'MTVers' in the crowd ... I know of at least 2 other occasions I've seen djs deliberately attempt to rile a crowd they didn't like: Aphex Twin - when his assessment of some skinheads he'd spotted at the front was not good, Carl Craig at The End - when no one liked his remix of Buena Vida - that was funny: 'What The Fuck!' he said when no one danced - But it got a cheer! -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 25, 2002 12:22 PM To: s mcgill Cc: 313; :P Subject: Re: [313] RE: (313) RE: (313) stacey pullen - electric relaxation I remember the night you're talking about although I think I was mainly in the main room for Hawtin Aquaviva that night. Wasn't Aphex's NYC debut playing sandpaper on one deck? I'm sure I read something ludicrous like that some years back? Saw Mills in Zurich late last year and after about 2 hours he looked at the admittedly lame crowd and raised his eyebrows, and probably thought I can't be arsed with this... he had been dropping a number of classics throughout. - Original Message - From: Odeluga, Ken [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Org 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Friday, January 25, 2002 12:48 PM Subject: RE: [313] RE: (313) RE: (313) stacey pullen - electric relaxation So the final verdict on DJ Pullen? :o) I vote yes (as in I think he's 'good'). RE: [313] string 'n' pad
Careful about asking 'Is it music?' almost any dance music afficionada has to ask themselves the same question in a dark night of the soul ... But for me personally, it IS music. Perhaps a new kind of music which takes the aesthetic principles of modern art and applies them to sound - CF: The Art of Noise (the name itself is a kind of manifesto, non?). Their early records could be seen as early techno, in which the potentional of Kraftwerk, Devo, etc were finally fused into as much a new way of appreciating sound as a new kind of music(That's my stock answer to 'Is it Music' anyway!). Also, I'm happy for people to come here ignorant - to educate on modern detroit dance music is what the site's meant to do, after all. Finally, sorry for preaching to those who know more than me. In the end though if music is a feeling and you ain't feeling it it ain't music to you. Your view can however change if you are prepared to open yourself to new experiences and through practice, ie. listening, you can then train your ear to enjoy it. When you know the effort and thought that has gone into a composition you can't help but admire the individuals or person that created the piece. Question is a piece of music as valid knowing the creator/s are doing it to make a quick killing or are the struggling musicians out there the true music makers? Blimey what a heavy composition! [313] 2001 gems
As it's still near the beginning of the year, I thought that this is still a relevant topic. Over the last few weeks there have been loads of lists in magazines, net etc. with top lists of 2001. While I don't slavishly go out and buy all the top 10 records, I do find these useful to check I haven't missed anything major which I should have bought. I bought Cannibal Ox The Cold Vein the other day, which has turned out to be really interesting musical hip hop (although I'm not a big fan of the genre). Has anyone any comments on this album, or any albums which they resisted buying / didn't hear about all year, and have now bought, and recommend. RE: [313] is it music?
This is barely comprehensible. Sorry. what do you mean by that ? - the grammar and stuff ? - pffr or you got the meaning and you complain about that ? you could complain a bit more detailed then - - oh and robin - about the bla-man thing hm listen - I would love to shut up and just read and learn more about the deeper things in 313-culture - (beside the always good2know record collector-stuff) but most comments here - are so flat and are just üärgh - I mean why the f±±± is this rubbish almost every day, like: Mills should do and write this and that, or yesterday - Stacey Pullen should mix like this so people give him a mark as if it´s about getting marks at school ? the Music needs to be like this and that ? ? ? What do you know about the meaning of certain drum patterns ? The meaning of african culture in music (and techno music) and how it developes through the circumstances the dominating nations create on the planet. What is it that makes you move - beside banging beats or that it´s hot ? I´m here 4 understanding more ... does that make sense ? ps - alex reece c not s was the pulp fiction one - and - adam f - bob james sampling - octave one - bob james roadies off 2day party nite nite m planetz2002 -- LoveThemPlanetZ peoplez plantz peaze pluz m GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
