He did a 25 years of KMS set here in Glasgow in a 200 capacity place
called La Cheetah with a Funktion 1 rig in it, was pretty gutted to have
missed that but any time i've seen him playing to more than a few hundred
people it's been pretty generic funky/loopy Bangers all night.

I've got some old Derick May and Juan Atkins radio shows from back in teh
day but Kevin was part of Deep Space too was he not? Any good tips for old
 KS mixes that rock?

Classics not Classics 'Holy Grails'

2014-11-30 Thread placid
It's not very often I have all my rare chicago 12's and a spare 100
minutes these days.. however, the planets aligned last night and the
result is a 100 minute mix..

My classics not classics series came about when a friend asked me to
put my old, less known chicago stuff into a mix. As much as we loved
them..we were bored by the same old chicago tunes appearing in all the
mixes and compilations..so i tried to make people aware of a whole
load of lesser known tracks by lesser known artists… I went on to do 6
volumes… they're getting on a bit now..and only 192 kbps so I thought
id put all my favourite ones in one mix. Fastforward 10 years..and the
advent of the Discogs bubble.. and the availability of every track
known to man on Youtube…the not of 'lesser known' as they were..but
they are still great tracks.

You can listen and/or download it here -

Id have been up for going if I was able to go...its a great room for
exhibitions, but it could have sound problems if not handled correctly and
the Tate have failed at the first hurdle so I hope its not a sign of things
 to come.

Nicholas Serota (Director of Tate) says it's not the first time the
website has crashed from over demand, so he must have known there would be
the same problem. So this leads me to think he doesn't care enough to sort
out the problems and in turn couldn't care about the shows them self's and
the sound bouncing around in that concrete room.

 Hey,

Did any of the UK peeps get tickets for the London Tate shows? From
looking at forums it seems the Tate didn't handle the demand very well and
their system crashed immediately. The web site said no in person sales and
they were selling tickets over the counter too

I can't go so didn't even bother but it seems like chaos, I hope this is

Placid's Top 25 Acid House of all time, admittedly not much 313 in here..but a
hell of a lot of 312 (it's only one digit out)

Can be heard here -http://soundcloud.com/placid_88 (be quick, download only
allows 100)

A 2 hour mix up of my current Top 25 or 'how many I can get in 2 hours' of acid
house tracks from the last 24 years..

You may notice Ive omitted a lot of 'classics'. I didnt want it to turn into a
acid thunder, acid over, magik feet mixathon... so i put stuff in there which
ive been into for years but might not mean that much to you...

If you fancy having your cerebral cortex massaged or hammered depending on your
acidic persuasion then give it a whirl.

No tracklist on this one for the moment - If you know your acid, you won't need
one ;)

 all re-mastered -

A quick question. Does remastering actually man its going to sound better.
What if the technique they use isn't as good as it originally was

Going back to a post a few months back on how the trax stuff had been
remastered to sound great on big sound systems but lacked mids and hi end
clarity

here - http://www.offmodern.com/2011/06/revisionist-house/

just thinking...

 that will be 4xcd, and 4x 2xlp

.so, how many of you out there have signed records in your
collection? I don't mean ones you've picked up in a store (I still
kick myself after all these years remembering passing up a complete
set of signed and sealed Transmat and Fragile releases in Ruadub
because they were £1 more expensive than the normal copies and I had
the majority of the tracks anyway)...I mean the ones you've actually
taken the time and bother to drag down to a club night where somebody
you totally respect is about to play and you run up to them with a
silver or black marker and...well, you know the rest :)

Tonight, whilst going through my vinyl for the first time in a LONG
 time, I found:

Mr Fingers - Amnesia - of course I was new to the signing thing then
and had brought a ball point pen instead of a marker and poor old
Larry had to sort of inscribe the cover as the pen wouldn't write -
this would have been roughly 1994-1995 when he played live (DX7, Emax
II and live vocals- I recoreded the gig on DAT and of course, it
didn't work) in the Volcano club on a Thursday night (where the club
scene in Trainspotting was filmed fact fans!)

Orlando Voorn - 1987 DMC MegaMix - signed at his Art School gig back
in 2001 just before I moved over to Amsterdam - he ended the show by
coming out of the DJ booth, dancing like a crazy man and then
scratching in the next track by leaning back into the booth whilst
still dancing - pretty impressive stuff!

Of course the hardest part after making a fool of yourself is getting
the said record home in one piece..or home at all!

Come on you lot, what you got?

The A side has a long and dubby (no suprise there!) mix by Johannes

Much more interesting is the XDB mix on the other side - kind of
reminds me of Iz and Diz at their best or a spacey Prescription
 Underground sort of thing.

Best mix for me is actually the Patrice Scott Beatless Dub - lots of
building atmospherics and pulsing bass lines with no regular kick drum
 - really well done (only a few mins long though)

Anyone else got anything to listen too?

I'm searching around our warehouse at the moment looking for the Shake

(313) The Techno Monster Mix

2011-09-02 Thread Placid
Essentially records which I have but have not yet managed to put into a mix as
they are either too fast or too bonkers or a combination of both.

Naturally, my idea of bonkers and yours may vary, but I can only go by my own
bonkers induced reality and upload the result. Looking back, theres only a
couple I'd class as full on monsters, but the not so full-on are blooming fast…
oddly enough i still ended up playing them at about -4, the thought of hearing
them on 0 or + anything baffles me..

2011-08-19 Thread Placid
not strictly 313 but i do mention that I have omitted Reel by Reel so it is
valid on a technicality

thought some of you guys might like it anyway..

Mojuba Record Label

Best described as deep dubby house with occasional forays into deep techno and
a smattering of tech house on sublabels a.r.t.less and Wandering.

with a roster of Sven Weisemann, Nick Sole, (label owner Don Williams, Oracy
and Stereociti, as well as a few one offs by Chez Damier, Bernard Badie, Marty
Bonds and Tyree on Mojuba it is one of the few labels that i own nearly every
release of...

Thought I'd stick my favourite releases on one mix so here it is….

You can download it here - http://www.acid-house.net/Placid_Mojuba.mp3

I will post a tracklist over the weekend..

I omitted the Tyree and Reel By Reel on the grounds they had been released on
another label… but I put Bernard Badie on there so that kind of thinking
doesn't really hold up but it's the best I could come up with…..

Anyway enjoy the music

(313) The Dub Techno Sound of Detroit

2011-08-04 Thread Placid
following on from my Berlin mix i thought I'd play some dubby technoey bits
from Detroit …mainly consisting of Steven Hitchell, Rod Modell, Mike Huckaby
and Octal Industries, it offers, for me, a more refined sound than Berlin, but
just as effective, huge expanses of sound, delays and reverb and basslines,

NB: - This is best heard on a system with bonus oomph.

anyway enough rambling. here's the tracklist

(313) The Dub Techno Sound of Berlin

2010-12-10 Thread Placid
Pioneered by Berlin Duo Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernusutus, and for me, still
unparalleled, the sound of what became pigeonholed as Dub Techno has taken many
twists and turns since the fist Maurizio 12's. Some of it bland, some of it
extremely good.. Unfortunately I had Deepchord down as just imitating Maurizio
for years and neglected to buy any of their records when they came out, hence
their aren't any of their original 12's on this mix as they all cost a fortune
to get hold of now….. anyway…
Here's a 2 hour mix of my currrent favourite DT, of which some emanates from
Berlin and some doesn't and some might be inspired Mr Von Oswald and Mr
Ernestus or may not be and could, if you like pigeonholing music, be called Dub
Techno.

Hi

Im not even sure if vinyl promos exist any more however, I just thought I'd ask
if there are any label owners / artists on this list who put out 12's of an
acidic nature and could put any promos my way

I am resident here http://iheartacid.wordpress.com/ at the only acid house
monthly in London (that I know of) as well as a bi weekly acidcly based
internet radio show.

My recorded radio shows currently get around 2000 downloads on average...

(313) Placid - 303 De Deutsche Acid mix

2010-10-17 Thread Placid
Thought I'd throw together some of my favourite Deutsche 303 pieces.

Listening back, it appears as if most of my german acid consists of early / mid
90's stuff, although i didn't use a lot of it by any means on this mix, apart
from Hawtin, Synewave and Woody Mcbride from the US it was down to the Germans
and the dutch (this is another mix i have planned) to take the 303 even further…

order they come in at, there is a tracklist here

New Omar S - proper old school Acid Track in Mid 90's - really
liking this as it doesn't mess with the formula but it doesn't rip off

about two minutes and you never noticed it at first.

Other side is Ultra Fine - not quite as on fire as the 90's track
 but still good.

not to other way around - they won't give you a lot of more gigs or some

 regarding finance
normally a booking agency charges 15% of your fee on top to the promotor/club
 who books you.
so 500 fee for you, means booking agency charges 75 for himself.
so a club pays 575 in total

whether the agent does all your gigs exclusive is up to you
 you can do worldwide exclusive
sometimes they do by continent or country (like booker A is UK, booker B rest
 of Europe)
but other deejays have two agencies, both working non-exclusive for whole
 Europe

but as said before, don't expect (too much) an agency to generate more gigs
 for you

 Booking agencies are evil.

I tried to avoid them as much as i could, all the times i had to deal with
them i ended arranging stuff myself because they just did it wrong or flat
out forgot about it. I know that a couple of high profile artists always
managed to live without them. I personally just cant handle them i find them
a waste of money or resources.
