i love the basement, it's dark and has the most beautiful wood panelling(?) the sound is good, and the bartenders pour good drinks. i saw carl craig, maurizio dami, juan atkins, and dez there so far. lots of good names going through that place. recommended. ani : -Original Message- : From: jason kenjar [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] : Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2004 7:31 PM : To: ani : Cc: 313 : Subject: Re: (313) detroit event - 3 chairs monthly residency : at oslo - begins tonite : : : How are the shows at oslo? the lineup always looks good. :
(313) OT: club shooting in detroit
another shooting in detroit, seven people shot, one cop, one other person in the head. undercover cops were trying to get into trenchtown afterhours, or some other spot on that block (i haven't been there since it was better days/bittersweet). not too many details yet, the monday paper should have details. it's a shame when people are hurt senselessly, but it really hits home when the sh*t goes down in front of *your* regular spots. i'm not looking forward to a recap of the racial tension and abandonment of the city that followed the 1991 fireworks beating incident. or empty bars and dancefloors as an already fickle crowd retreats to the burbs. there's also fear that the hip hop scene will be affected by the candybar incident. i always feel for people who are victims of gun violence, but until a couple years ago shootings seemed to be more premeditated, or some guy getting payback, etc. not random gunfire with undercover cops, or people hanging in the dj booth or club entrance getting shot. i'm sorry if this is really off topic, but recent events in detroit have me concerned about the safety of friends, or anyone who ventures out for a night of good music in any city. ani
RE: (313) panic in detroit lp

RE: (313) detroit event tonight - reminder
detroit's 'finest' had to shut both the party *and* afterparty. both times during dan bell's sets. nothing pains me more than seeing a cop in the booth, killing the sound for the night. [expletive deleted] i'll leave the proper reviews to the tehcno heads. but i will say that dan bell never disappoints, and i enjoyed hearing some loud techno in a sweatbox with all of the usual suspects. paxahau put on an amazing show as usual. ani
RE: (313) detroit event tonight - reminder *RANT*
yes, they did have to shut it down. it is now illegal to listen to electronic music in detroit. it must be, because when the last party that i was at got shut down, i yelled, 'it's illegal to dance in detroit now, right!?' at the every cop i saw, and they didn't disagree. detroit police should go to the clubs where people are getting shot in the head. oh, i forgot, there's no money in that.

RE: (313) convextion
can't wait to hear this. regarding p2p file sharing of unreleased material, i don't condone people stealing other peoples' material. but at the same time, i believe i have the freedom to download material because i only play vinyl and will ultimately have to buy the record anyway. i know the titles i will buy when they come out, and may want a listen before shopping. also, a bit of laziness when it comes to encoding vinyl contributes to my support of sharing music on p2ps.

(313) New Mix at threeonethree.com - Ryski
Now available for download or stream at threeonethree.com Ryski - Live on Orion 1 Radio, Italy 02142004 [Tracklist not available] Bio: Ryan Sadorus (aka. Ryski) was born and raised in Decatur, Illinois. Much of his early musical influence came from early MTV groups like The Police, Duran Duran, The Clash, Depeche Mode and Hall Oats. His mom would sit him in front of the TV when he was very young watching these videos and this was what eventually sparked his interest in other forms of music such as hip hop. When hip hop exploded into the mid 80's, Ryski took a great interest in break dancing (Breakin) and listening to early hip hop from artists like Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash. This love for hip hop went on through his childhood and into high school... It wasn't until he moved to Japan in the mid 90's that he really heard electronic music for the first time, witnessing some unbelievable club nights all over Tokyo. The sound that dominated Tokyo at the time was New York style house that went way late into the hours and dj's like Ko Kimura (Bedrock/Futic) would play 6 hour sets to crowds of 2000 or more. It was Ko Kimura's late night dramatic house sets that inspired Ryski to take a more serious approach to electronic music. In 1999, Ryski moved to the island of Guam which is about a 3 hour flight south of Japan. The underground electronic music scene was in it's infancy and was mostly catering to the industrial/goth type of crowds at that time. It was at these infamous parties where Ryski first got his exposure as a DJ and helped to shape his sound into something unique. During his 2 years on Guam he managed to help bring down his long time idol and Japanese DJ legend, Ko Kimura twice to play side by side at the island's biggest club, Globe. This proved to be a defining moment in Guam's electronic music scene. In the summer of 2000 he played at an MTV Jet Tour party in front of 1000 people and also managed by this time to have held residencies at all the major clubs on island This eventually led into a year long mixshow on Guam's biggest mainstream radio station Power98 FM, where he would mix records live on air being broadcast all over Micronesia; from Saipan to Guam hitting over 150,000 people weekly. He continually pushed the boundaries of the underground, educating the masses on dance music even before it was popular in the area. In 2001, Ryski relocated to the birthplace of Techno, Detroit and is already establishing himself as a serious DJ/Producer. He has played at Detroit's most respected clubs such as Motor Detroit (twice), Necto, Portal, X/S and has played at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) in 2002 and 2003. In 2002, he started a record label Berettamusic which released their first record Recoil EP in May 2003 which has been getting spins from DJ's all over and was even featured in the August 03' issue of BPM magazine. Most recently his house track With You was signed to DJ Vitamin D's label, Colorecordings and will be released worldwide at the end of 2003. Ryski's style has transcended through the genres over the years but his standards have always remained high in the content of what he plays and his mixing abilities; and this shows through in his live sets. This creative and dynamic individual has always managed to stay positive and productive in all his endeavors. His positive charisma is infectious to all who know him. Keep an eye out for Ryski and Berettamusic as they continue to forge new ground in the global dance community For more Info: http://www.ryski.com xo, threeonethree.com

RE: (313) Record Time www site...
i'm blushing :) i may have not been the quickest mailorder person, but i really cared about the customers, because i am a vinyl addict too! so hopefully i haven't made too many enemies on the list. and i hated that website more than anyone, trust me! but i can't say one way or the other, i always go to rt roseville (as i am currently still on the east side). i don't like the site, but it's not a custom designed site for them, just a template that they put items into. i would suggest submerge (you know them already) or neptune (ferndale, they have minimal/experimental/indie) to supplement your mailorder needs. the bins at rt are definitely the best, you wouldn't believe what people trade in (and overlook). i don't own finalscratch, but the amount of used records i've picked up from people who 'don't need vinyl anymore' makes me say 'i love finalscratch!' i would recommend having a detroit friend (ahem) dig for the htf records you need. i saw some ugly edits white labels there a couple weeks back, among other goodies. ani : : -Original Message- : : From: scotto [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] : : Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2003 9:43 AM : : To: 313@hyperreal.org : : Subject: Re: (313) Record Time www site... : : : : : : imo mail order at record time went down hill after ani left. : : but the website is stupid now, i dont even try to use it. i can : : never find : : anything. : : : : but the last two times i have gone down to RT in both stores : : the used bin : : has rocked. : : : : -scotto : : lansing, mi. : : plaztikjezuz.com : : : : : : - Original Message - : : From: Southern Outpost [EMAIL PROTECTED] : : To: 313@hyperreal.org : : Sent: Monday, September 08, 2003 11:09 PM : : Subject: (313) Record Time www site... : : : : : : Is it just me or has Record Times www site gone downhill? : : : : Can't seem to browse through all their records like in times gone by. : : : : Peace, : : Patrick. : : : : : : : : : :

RE: [313] cleaning vinyl
i found a copy of no ufo's that had so much mildew it was almost unrecognizable. i used a 1/10 solution of 90% isopropyl alcohol / distilled water, and gentle rubbing with a clean cloth to clean both the vinyl and label. -alcohols (isopropyl/ethanol) seem to work well. like eyeglass cleaners which use dilute solutions, so they're not as stripping *don't use full strength alcohols* -some people use plain water, but it won't remove greasy (nonpolar) dirt -since acetone melts everything, avoid it even in dilute solutions -some people ammonia glass cleaner (windex), but i avoid these -gruv glide uses petroleum distillates, but i don't see many of those in the lab remember all you chemists out there: like dissolves like! ;) for less dirty records, i use gruv glide, because it's not water based and cleans light dirt (fingerprints, dust) without making the record wet. ani : : -Original Message- : : From: Jason Donnelly [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] : : Sent: Friday, August 30, 2002 8:56 AM : : To: 313@hyperreal.org : : Subject: [313] cleaning vinyl : : : : : : hi there : : : : managed to track down a copy of the classic Throbbing Gristle LP, was : : thinking about transferring it to cd, so obviously I would like : : to get the : : best possible copy, does anyone know which solvents clean vinyl up the : : best, and which solvents to avoid (would rather not melt the : : vinyl!). RE: [313] videos?
the detroit grad pubahs 'sandwiches' is one of the most bizarre videos i've seen. definitely a must-see. dwarves running around with enormous pickles, ordinary looking girls (not video-type girls) dancing or doing aerobics, and baby pools full of mayonnaise. a friend loaned me a copy when it first came out. anyone else see this? ani : : -Original Message- : : From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] : : [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] : : Sent: Friday, August 02, 2002 12:28 PM : : To: 313@hyperreal.org : : Subject: [313] videos? : : : : : : Outside of the X-Mix videos, Carl Craig's Televised Green Smoke, and : : Metropolis - what other Detroit and D influenced artists have made music : : videos? i checked out panacea last night for the first time since seeing carl craig on new year's eve, and had a great time. the music was fantastic, mike clark and michael geiger had everyone feelin it with some of the best house i've heard in a while. there were way less people than i expected. i've been out of the loop, but do people in detroit still go out? cover was $5, which was worth it for the way that place sounds. it was nice to get out again and run into lots of familiar faces... ani - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] metro times article - rant
The Detroit Free Press, another festival sponsor, worked hard, she says, to gain a stage sponsorship. the artists and labels in detroit work hard and essentially *are* detroit electronic music, past and present. so why can't they afford to have a tent? I believe in bringing people together, she says. Its my lifes work. a couple of sentences later: I think she really understands what marketers want... Shes always been into marketing and image. so basically it's her life's work to bring a million people (and their money) together in the name of god (also power and coattail riding), and have sponsors pay her. that is not what *music* is about. i understand that sponsorship is important, but it's a real shame that local artists and businesses cannot afford to participate in a festival that is supposedly about them. ani - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [313] metro times article - rant
the lineup is something that will always make some people unhappy. i think the panel was a good idea (much better than carol/pcm picking artists). my problem with the whole thing is this: if the festival is the *detroit electronic music* festival, how come i can't walk into a tent and buy an ersatz audio record? and i have doubts about the integrity of someone who claims to be a fan of the music and then uses it to help huge corporate sponsors reach their market audience. that should be a small part of the festival, not the main focus. (no pun intended) btw: does anyone know who the music retailer is down there this year? i know record time is not doing it. ani : : -Original Message- : : From: Fred Heutte [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] : : Sent: Thursday, May 23, 2002 12:29 AM : : To: 313@hyperreal.org : : Subject: Re: [313] metro times article - rant : : : : : : I'm concerned about this idea that this year's lineup just makes the : : DEMF into a daytime rave. hi benn, i'm drowning in paperwork and vinyl, literally. i've been working 12 hour days, and i'm so sorry for the delay, but i'm getting about 300 emails a day and i'm trying very hard to get back with everyone in a timely manner. the climax vinyl just came in last night. i haven't even had a chance to open the box or price it yet. because your order included this item, it was not processed yet. i'm sorry for the delayed reply. i try to give everyone the best customer service that i can, but please bear with me, as this week is the busiest of the year for me. my focus for the last few days has been to get all the product i'm responsible for (about 15 different labels/distributors), so some orders have not been processed yet. i will be working as hard as humanly possible to get caught up this week. thank you for your patience, and for shopping at record time. my apologies, ani [EMAIL PROTECTED] ph 810.775.1550 fax 810.775.5830 icq# 33610265 - Original Message - From: Benn Glazier [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2001 12:37 AM Subject: [313] Re: Record Time Anyone know what's up over there? [313] miss information
from today's detroit news article While many of the pioneers of electronic music -- traditionally made by DJs with turntables instead of bands with instruments... wow, i guess i can get rid of that confusing reason software and just use my tables... ani - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
