2001-10-21 Thread dan ito
just for an idea what is on the records. there is a track from 009a on live
at the liquid room(1994). also, the subject 001 dj bone mix cd has a track
from 009b. one of the tracks from 009a sounds like jerical(spelling?) from
waveform vol. 1. they are total collector's items. i'd get another copy of
each if i found them.

More Drama is actually Axis 006 which replaced
Drama (older Axis 006). Axis 009 and 009B are just
untitled releases. I have 009B and I think it's worth
it. I'm not good at track descriptions so I'm not
going to attempt :) I beleieve 009 is much harder to
find than 009B, which you might still be able to get
at recordcollectorinc.com (I got mine from there).

This past tour he did, I witnessed a DJ set that any other hard Euro DJ
would have done. It was boring and funkless (basically loops). I've heard
the same complaint from people all across the U.S. This is not to say that
Mr. Hawtin sucks. On the contrary he doesn't. Just this last time would be
completely forgettable if it had been any other DJ. But it wasn't and

Seeing the shxtty turn out that Mr. Hood got 2 night ago at motor, I can't

people will go afterwards who knows...

with a projected 2 million people in town for the DEMF, I don't see any
problems with aqcauviva packing the house.

i know lots of torture methods that will get info out of people. i just
need some babboo chutes, salt, lemon juice, razor blades, nipple clamps, a
dildo (trust me i won't use this on myself), and all the women that
participated in the pregnant bikini contest last weekend out here in San

ok here's what we do...well...it would be better if we
had some extra time to set this up, but time is of the
 essence, first...we're gonna need a monkey...I know,
monkey are cliche...but this is neccesary...ok, so we
train the monkey over the next two weeks to be able to
pretend to be Carol Marvin...then when the time of the
demf nears we get a crack force of geeky techno
 guys...i know...we're stretching a little bit
here...but -some- of us have to spend some time
outside, play basketbal or something, I'll need a show
of hands of people who have seen the sun and broken a
sweat because of moving in the last 6 months, we'll
use those guys to make the team...anyway. so we kidnap
Carol Marvin with our awesome team of geeky techno
guys and replace her with the monkey, I'm sure since
we're so close to the DEMF no one will notice,
hopefully the looking for lice in peoples hair will be
attributed to stress...so the carol monkey will give
said speeches which will consist of ook ook and eek
eek and hopefully some poop throwing...that would be
a plus, this will hopefully do some damage to her
reputationso we take Carol back to our secret
 base...uh, any volunteers for a secret base?...and
make her watch Brady Bunch reruns and The Sound of
Music over and over again with the sound up loud while
playing Britney Spears oops...I did it again at the
same time, this coupled with Ubersamalian(did I get
that right) smith lip synching the whole time in
nothing but a g-string and some of those little nipple
tassles...these actions should in no time at all get
her to concede to our demands...what do you guys
think? I've put a lot of time into this idea...

I heard people here talking about Dave Clarke, and I've heard him compared
to Hawtin in other circles, so I decided to give him a shot. I downloaded
'Dave Clarke - Live @ I Love Techno [Red Room]' from Napster and I would
like to know, has anyone else heard this? RANT What the hell is this guy
trying to do? Excessive use of Pioneer DJM-600 effects on cheesy default
settings, no regard whatsoever for 4/4 timing and proper breaks, and a
complete lack of song selection seemed to be the obvious problems I saw.
Hawtin could make a more entertaing show with the original RCA phonograph
and two volume controls. /RANT On the good side, he has some nice
crossfader technique once in awhile.

Sorry, I had to get this off of my chest, but if someone out there knows of
a good set by our esteemed Mr. Clarke, please clue me in.

Regards,

Re: [313] Real audio 2 CDR(was online mix track id)

Subject: Re: [313] Real audio 2 CDR(was online mix track id)

If you can locate the URL that links you directly to the .ra file itself,
you can type the location into your web browser and download it onto your
hard drive (unless of course, it is cgi-based, as someone properly pointed
out... you could try it anyway to see if it works though). Downloading the
.ram file (metafile) does no good, as this file simply tells the web
browser

to launch your realmedia player and then points the player to the actual
location of the .ra file itself. You can download the .ram file (right
click as save as) and then open it with Notepad, that will tell you the
location of the .ra file itself. As far as burning it to CD, you'd have to
convert the .ra file to .wav format... either the old fashioned analog way
(speaker output to cassette deck or mini-disc or whatever, then back to the
computer's hard drive via line input) or use a program like ra2wav that
will

do it digitally for you.

This might be a stupid question but HOW does one
download a realaudio-mix to the harddrive?

When you open a RealAudio file a .ram file gets copied onto your HD,
usually
in your temporary internet files if youre on a pc. locate that file and
open
it in a text editor. there you should find the a link to the
downloadable

.rm file on the server. it doesn't always work but there's no harm in
trying! BTW, if the realaudio feed comes from a .cgi (like betalounge)
its

not possible to do this.or at least i haven't found a way!!

 good luck

Listen, I've never seen a party get so out of hand than that edition of
Woodstock about, what?, two years ago? Man, what was that all about? If
this

kinda thing would happen on a dance event like for instance Dance Valley in
Holland (60.000 visitors and one of the best in Europe, lots of 'cheese'
though) I wouldn't even considering going back. The footage we got to see
here about that Woodstock edition seemed totally out of this world. At
least

for a music event. Don't get started about European soccer madness because
that's another story I don't get. Sometimes the wrong people get drawn to
phenomena and that... brings us back to Ford.

Basically, I think that Woodstock *might* have been the biggest event in

What if people started saying that black, American people have no business

or Kraftwerk having no business being inspired by James Brown.

His web site Tronic is very good - I forget the address but it is maybe
some

variation of Tronic Records and may show up on Yahoo.

He has a new mixed-CD out soon of tech-house (his first actually!) also
through Tronic and it will be distributed by various other companies
(Hardware in Australia). He actually completed it while in Melbourne this
last summer.

I think he has had a residency at Motor for a while? He now lives in NY.

He used to be on the list - he may even be back?

Maybe I asked about this before, but ...
does anyone know where I can find Christian Smith dj
mixes online or any other info

I did hear when he played in detroit only 20 people
came to see him...why?
I have never heard him dj before so curious..

others have a smaller stock. though, the others have sound samples on them.
those are great.

When Jeff Mills comes to Perth next month, what do you suppose the odds
are that he plays anything from Every Dog has it's day Pts 1 or 2?

As a dj, the man is amazing, but I'm wondering if it will be the same

If by Jeff Mills!! I thought the singer Anna F was an American but she is
from Amsterdam and sings in clubs cafes and the like, so I am told.

The Ron Trent mix of Amel Larrieux's Get Up

The MJ Cole mix of Jill Scott's Gettin' In The Way (this man is bigger than
two-step!)

And my absolutely fave new female artist - Nicole Willis, whose album Soul
Makeover is co-produced by Maurice Fulton Jimi Tenor (her husband), and
is

off the hook - it's out on a Finnish label Sahko. There is a track on there
that could be The Supremes produced by Model 500. The album is jazz,
neo-soul, electro, house, (Detroit) techno. It's not neo-soul but future
soul. Amazing!

 2. Can anyone else point me in the direction of some equally strong
vocal

tracks that have come out in recent years?

Sun Kids feat' Chance's Rise Up (Basement Boys main mix) on Yellorange
is

the most obvious one. It is stunningly good - a bona fida classic. Chance
sounds a lot like Aretha Franklin, which, I'm sure you'll agree, is
pretty
strong! Also check out Rescue Me by the same. The Basement Boys are
fairly

unstoppable, just now - everything on their label is worth at least
checking.

well put. plus, imo the label is also part of the record. the artwork on
it, the way the information is arranged on it; without these things the
record would lose some of its magic.
ever noticed how sexy a record with label looks like when spinning on a
deck? i'm sure most of you have :-)

you can soak them, water wont harm the record at all, use rubbing alcohol

My question is why do people hide there records so much?

That's not a sarcastic question, I'm serious. Why, particularly with

if some crazy thing happens, and i become a superstar dj one day. i am
going to put my own labels on my records and write all the info on them in
huge print so everyone can see what the hell it is. i mean, even if you ask
a dj what record that he/she was playing (which is so rude, but so is making
all of your records white labels. not to mention anal as hell) 90% of the
time they never tell you. one of the downfalls of techno, TECHNO SNOBS.

In cleveland, you some idiots who do things like blank off The Bells or
Live

Wire, as if it was some hidden super secret squirrel track...

Or some DnB DJ's black out Virus Records, LOL!!!

Personally, I say who cares, I mix it one way, another DJ mixes it another
way, that's what makes it unique.

Another thing, so many people think I'll be real popular if I'm the only
DJ

with this record, and I'll beat anyone down who tries to spot it. How
retarded is that??

Does anyone really think promoters book on how rare a DJ's record
collection

is?? Nope...

Hell, we booked Doc Scott for one of our events at the end of march, and on
the flier, we put dropping the freshest dub-plates, we don't care about
that, we just care if the DJ is skilled or not...

hmmm, I guess its a trend from the old hip hop days, so I respect it, I
just

think its kinda silly...
