2021-01-13 Thread Graham Langley via 4D_Tech
Considering how small the 4D developer community is, I find it odd that a
subset of developers on this "forum" is a good thing. I love the discuss
site, and it's the place to be for anything V18. We should also welcome
"smart-arse newbies". Pretty sure we've all whined in the past about the
lack of new developers. My 2c.

Yeah, I still monitor this list, but there is very little activity. And if
there’s no activity, what’s the point?

I actually like the new discuss forum. In fact, I like it a lot. I like the
ability to post pictures and formatted code. I also like that there are lots of
engaged 4D developers, old and new, posting regularly there. But most
especially I like that lots of 4D Inc folks are there.

following the slogan “What happens in/on iNUG stays in/on iNUG”?

I must have missed an important episode here, because I don’t understand what
that statement means. Was there a controversy at some point? Was it recent? Or
years ago?

To resolve any confusion, "resource" = a "thing" not a "Resource" as in the

Whether or not we restrict access to 4D Write via the method you suggested, the

David:

While it's true that 4D WP is not a plugin, access to 4D WP is controlled
in the same manner as the plugin — either on an individual user basis or by
creating a group and granting access to that group.

With that in mind, you might be able to either move the user into a group
that has access to 4D WP with the Change current user command or move them
into the "4DWP" group using Set user properties.

Managing 4D Write Pro licenses

2021-01-13 Thread David Rose via 4D_Tech
We have a 4D Server v17R6 database running in a Windows-only environment. We
have a single 4D Write Pro license. Only one out of our dozen or so users uses
4D Write Pro. Now that 4D Write is no longer a plug-in, we have a problem
managing access to that license. When 4D Server is launched, the first user to
log in grabs the license. Is there any way to prevent this?

PING of life...

2021-01-13 Thread Jörg Knebel via 4D_Tech
G’day,

Are here still enough dinosaur/old timers present to have some decent
discussions without that white noise and smart-arse newbies in the forum?

I’m following the lead of my neighbour David Adams and don’t participate in the
forum any more.

Question is, are there other oldies willing to participate WITHOUT feeding
anything into the forum(s) following the slogan “What happen in/on iNUG stays
in/on iNUG”?

Cheers
Jörg
