No worries -- while I'd love to see you try out your hand at
contributing, the talks are going to happen early on, and
there's no obligation to stay and hack if you're not interested.

Nah I'm a lurker, I read and chat, a Hiro of sorts I don't contribute much.

Mostly interested in talks and demos and meeting some of the familiar names on
the lists, not super interested in hacking, I think I would mostly slow things
down.

Maybe I can proofread man pages

Nope. Do what you want.

But to me, the question reads oddly. It seems like the
reason for attending would be that you want to or do
something.

No thanks necessary - David, Richard, and many others have done the
heavy lifting, I just scripted a few things. Hopefully others will
find it useful too!

[9fans] Updated contrib packages for go1.13.5

2020-01-13 Thread Steven Stallion
All,

I've added arm and 386 packages for go1.13.5 on 9p.io. I decided to
package the entire GOROOT, so while the archive isn't particularly
large, it will take some time to install due to the number of files
contained within.

Assuming you have moved over to 9p.io for sources, you can install via
fgb's contrib by issuing:

% contrib/install stallion/go-$cputype

After installing this package, /$cputype/go/bin should be added to
/lib/namespace.local to add GOROOT to the default namespace.

By default, the go command will install binaries to $home/go/bin,
which may not be desirable for sites with multiple cputypes. To avoid
this issue, user profiles should be amended to either set
GOBIN=$home/bin/$cputype or bind -c $home/bin/$cputype $home/go/bin.

Cheers,
Steve

There isn't a single "labs boot procedure". Any 4th edition Plan 9 system
can use the kernel to load another kernel, with whatever embellishments you
care to dream up. That's what /dev/reboot is for.

If you want to boot over the network mediated by tls, you need a bit of
local storage to hold a (stripped down if you like) first-stage kernel
and a few commands (which may be embedded in the in-kernel /boot filesystem).
That kernel can run a small rc script to do this:
  srv -e 'tlsclient tcp!$fs!777' reboot /n/reboot
  reboot /n/reboot/path/to/next/kernel
On the server you need a corresponding /bin/service/tcp777 with
  #!/bin/rc
  /bin/tlssrv -c /path/to/cert.pem -l listen /bin/aux/trampoline -9
tcp!127.1!564

No exotic extra facilities needed: tlssrv and tlsclient were introduced
with 4th edition Plan 9 in 2002.
