2008-04-14 Thread palakodeti venkata satya vijay kumar
Dear list members,
Hope you are all doing well. Friends I tried to download a 5.4 M.B.
size M.P. 3 file. My problem is in the middle of the download process
the percent of download suddenly jumped to 100 percent, the download
window was closing and the file was saved in specified location. When
I tried to play the downloaded file with Winamp it was not playing.
I have tried to download another M.P. 3 file, but the result was the
same. My internet speed is 128 K.B.P.S. would you please give solution
to my problem?
With warm regards Vijay

Re: [AI] Disable macros question.

2008-04-14 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi,

I am surprised at the advice that has been given to you. Reinstalling
programs really fixes such problems. The answer to your problem lies in the
text of the dialog box.

1. If you trust the macros of the ad in, you can check the relevant checkbox
to always trust the macros and enable them.

2. You can set the macro security settings in Microsoft Word two medium or
no. This however puts you at risk from malware as in you will need to be
extremely careful when you get Microsoft office documents from external
sources. If you don't expect macros in them, ensure that you disable macros.

Walking directions, maps in 10 Indian languages

Desi cartography: Yahoo's Indian maps switch seamlessly to the local
 language of the region searched.

Bangalore: Yahoo's map services have gone 'desi.' Last week, the Internet
portal leader added interfaces in 10 languages to its Indian map and place

 finder
 utilities.

The service, which can be found at http://in.maps.yahoo.com, allows users
to switch from the default English to Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi,
 Bengali,
Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi and Oriya.

Users can zoom into the cities or towns of their choice. They can seek
directions to go from one place to another and the detailed walking
 directions appear
in a box alongside the map, where the route is highlighted, complete with
services en route such as restaurants, ATMs or petrol pumps.

The service can be accessed by anyone who has an Internet connection and
also works on Net-capable mobile phones. Even if you search on a PC or
 laptop,
you can e-mail or SMS the directions to a friend's mobile number.

The Hindu tested the software simulating the experience in various parts
of the country, in different languages - which one can select at the click

 of a
button. If you opt for 'vernacular,' it switches seamlessly to the local
language of the region that is being displayed. A double click zooms in
 for a
closer view. The product developed by Yahoo's Indian engineers in
Bangalore is said to cover 179 cities, 4,676 towns and over 2 lakh
 villages.

is good to change the general settings for hiding the off line

[AI] Cataract Surgery Grants available for Charitable Eye Hospitals

2008-04-14 Thread Pradeep banakar

Grants
available for Charitable Eye Hospitals

VISION FOUNDATION OF INDIA (VFI) is a registered not-for-profit,
charitable organization having its office at the premises of Bombay
City Eye Institute Research Centre in south Mumbai. Over the last
15 years VFI has successfully conducted 25,000 free cataract
surgeries through various outreach and in-house camps. With our vast
professional experience VFI wants to move ahead and make a
significant difference in blindness prevention program particularly
in under-served areas of India, where cataract surgery rate (CSR) are
negligible. VFI wants to reach with its support to many small and
rural eye hospitals to undertake free cataract surgeries for the
poor.

Our aim is to make cataract surgeries accessible to economically
weaker section of population and rural poor. Poor patients with eye
disease can receive treatment and surgery through these existing eye
hospitals, where surgeries will be supported by VISION FOUNDATION OF
INDIA. At VFI we want to reach large number of under privileged
people to make a significant difference and enable them to regain
eyesight.

Identification of Charitable Eye Hospitals:

VFI wishes to identify eye hospitals located at various states of
India (except mumbai region) which have required infrastructure, but
paucity of funds to undertake free cataract surgeries. Preference
will be given to hospitals having trained eye surgeons and facilities
for IOL implantation.

Charitable Eye Hospitals willing to receive grants for cataract
surgeries will need to comply by the following:

a)Commitment of active screening surgeries of population under the
banner of Vision Foundation of India and Participating Eye Hospital

b)Identification of cases fit for cataract surgery and motivate them
to come to base hospital

c)Performing free quality cataract surgeries either through SICS /
Phaco to the needy and under privileged population

d)Pre-operative examination and investigation as required.

e)Proper post-operative care including detail post-operative
instruction regarding do's and don'ts, and management of complication
if any.

f)Follow-up services including refraction and provision of glasses.

g)Maintain Cataract Surgical records (name, age, sex, address etc)
for the patients operated.

h) Adequate photographic / video documentation of OPD camp, surgeries
performed and post operative camps.

( We are looking for application from eye hospitals located at North
eastern states, Bihar, Jharkhand, Punjab,U.P, Hariyana,Himachal
Pradesh, Uttaranchal,JK,M.P. Rajastahan,Andhra Pradesh,Karnataka,
Maharashtra, )

[AI] Subsidy crisis hits blindness control programme in State

2008-04-14 Thread Pradeep banakar
The Hindu : Tuesday, Apr 15, 2008

Subsidy crisis hits blindness control programme in State
S. Vijay Kumar and Shastry V. Mallady
Subsidy not disbursed since 2003
State willing to give only Rs. 350 instead of Rs. 750
MADURAI: The ambitious National Programme for Control of Blindness under the
National Rural Health Mission has run into problems in Tamil Nadu.
Subsidy at the rate of Rs. 750 per free cataract surgery has not been disbursed
to NGO hospitals participating in the programme since 2003, and the arrears
now run to crores of rupees.
To the Madurai-based Aravind Eye Hospitals alone, the government owes Rs. 11
crore for performing thousands of free surgeries over the last five years.
Tired of representing to the authorities, the hospitals, which undertake at
least 70 per cent of all the free cataract surgeries done in Tamil Nadu, have
formed the 'Forum of Tamil Nadu NGO Eye Hospitals' to sort out the issue.
It wants the subsidy arrears of more than Rs. 31 crore to be disbursed and has
taken up the problem at various levels.
At its request, former Central Bureau of Investigation Director D.R.
Kaarthikeyan took up the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who promised
early
action. The Union Health Ministry was apprised of the situation. We have also
represented to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who has promised to look into
the matter, says P. Namperumalsamy, Chairman, Aravind Eye Hospital.
Forum president R.D. Thulasiraj said the government was planning to disburse
only Rs. 350 per free cataract surgery done, instead of Rs. 750. On an average,
the cost of each cataract surgery works out to Rs. 1,500. While the Centrally
funded programme provides for Rs. 750, the Government of Tamil Nadu wants
to give only Rs. 350 out of it. He said the programme is being successfully
implemented in the rest of the country.
We do not want to stop this service as a majority of those who benefit from
the programme belong to the below poverty line category. Even if the government
does not give any money, we will continue with the free surgeries. Eradicating
preventable blindness is our mission, says Dr. Namperumalsamy.
NGO hospitals claimed that they were being prevented from conducting free eye
camps and select patients for free cataract surgery. Recently, district
blindness
control officials sent telegrams at the last minute asking the Aravind Eye
Hospital not to conduct eye camps planned in Nagapattinam and Virudhunagar
districts.

Funds required
When contacted, Health Secretary V.K. Subburaj said additional funds were
required as the State performed a large number of free cataract surgeries
through
different agencies.
Besides the usual allocation, we have sought money from the Centre. Last week,
the State government received a part of the allocation and it will be disbursed
in 10 days, he said without elaborating on the quantum of funds received.
