Re: [AI] your thoughts on braille (Sanjay)

2008-06-07 Thread prateek aggarwal
Sabramani sir, thanks a lot for razing these very valuable point
regarding braile.
No doubt, the accessive use of computers and mobile phones brought
braile onto the back foot.
There was a time, when it was nearly impossible to step twards success
without braile, but time changed gradually. Today, there are many
examples where visually impaired persons achieved great success even
without knowing braile.
But, I strongly believe that every visually impaird person should
learn braile. Reason is that braile is only and only language which is
our very own.
Of course, need of study much, and keep updating yourself is only
possible with technology.
Because braile books takes longer time to publish, it doesn't provide
enough opportunities of reading updated material. One more big facter
of increasing inaccessibility of braile is it's high cost. Expensive
equipments, many employees and long time span makes it too expensive
in comparison of e books or online material.
Though braile culture is abolishing gradually, but still it's immense
use could not be avoided. Braile books gives you the real taste of
reading which can not be found in talking or e-books.
The benefit of carrying them anywhere is also there.
As a conclusion, braile is very useful in keeping daily records,
personal informations and more.
Hence, I would like to request all my friends please don't forget our braile.
Hope our efforts in this direction will never let braile into the museum.

[AI] Fw: Classes for Office 2007

Subject: [AI] Classes for Office 2007

Hi Listers,

I am pasting below some information that some of you
may be interested in.

Dakota State University is happy to announce that its
Introduction to Computers Class is being taught online
this fall with one section specifically designed
for screen reader users. The class begins on
September 2 and runs for 15 weeks. Our staff is
making sure that the text will be accessible for
screen
reader users, users of Braille displays, and users of
Dragon Naturally Speaking with JAWS and J-Say.

The course is entitled Introduction to Computers.
It presents a brief introduction to personal
computers, along with Windows XP and Vista. The vast
majority of the course focuses on Office 2007.
Individuals who sign up for the class and do not
currently have Office 2007 installed will be able to
purchase
the program for $20 from DSU. I will be the
instructor, and I am a totally blind computer user who
has used the computer with assistive tech for over
20 years.

The cost for all distance education courses at Dakota
State is $219.55 per credit hour. Thus, this
three-credit course will cost $658.65. I know that,
in South Dakota, the rehabilitation agency for the
blind is willing to pay this tuition, and other state
agencies may be willing to do so as well, given
the fact that, to my knowledge, this is the only
course of its kind being offered with accessibility
for screen reader users in mind. We also welcome
students from outside the United States.

Students can either sign up for the course using our
on-line registration form or by calling our office at
800-641-4309. The student will want to identify
Keith Bundy's section as the one they are interested
in. The Course Prefix is CSC 105 and the SYN number is
24511.

The registration form is at

https://www. secure.dsu. edu/ees/course_ registration.

If anyone has additional questions, please feel free
to email or call me. Feel free to circulate this
announcement to any individual or list you may deem
beneficial.

Re: [AI] Please help me out, I am unable to scan and download the attachment through gmail

2008-06-07 Thread Suresh
Hi Friends,

If you are using Internet explorer, follow different steps given below:

1. Press enter on the link scan and download. The new browser should open
with the dialog displaying details and the button to download the file.
2. Press shift+ enter on the link scan and download and the new browser
should appear with details and the button to download the file.
3. Press insert+ (numpad minus) to root JAWS cursor to virtual cursor.
Press left mouse button (slash in numerical keypad) to open the link scan
and download. The new browser should appear with the details.
4. As you know, the mouse and the JAWS cursor are the same. So place the
focuss on the link scan and download. Press Insert+numpad minus to drag
the JAWS cursor to the location. Use left and right arrow keys and make
sure that you are on the initial letter of the link Scan and download.
Don't move your mouse, just press left button in the mouse twice.
5. If your browser is not allowing popups, repeat the same steps that
mentioned in fourth point. Make sure when you are clicking with mouse press
and hold control key. No need to change pop settings in tools menu. It
should resolve the problem.

Hope it works on firefox also, But I don't use Firefox.

Kavitha!

You might have opened the file. Usually the dialog that you mentioned in
your mail appears when we open ppt files.

Suresh

Behind the buzzar: The Chennai-based team at PixelKraft that has created the
online video exhibition platform.

Bangalore: That popular family outing -to an exhibition or trade fair - just
went virtual.

A Chennai-based media solutions team at PixelKraft has just created what is
arguably the web's first online exhibition portal where Indian brands get to
display their wares using audio visual tools.

Six months ago, the same team launched Indibiz TV, a portal for television
advertisement clips mainly of interest to professionals.

One-stop cyber shop

Now it has reached across to lay consumers by providing a one-stop cyber shop
where they can search for information across multiple brand names and consumer
product categories or even services such as airlines and hotels. It is called
Buzzar (
www.buzzar.tv).

Harish Madhyastha, who heads the Buzzar team, told The Hindu on Saturday that
over 1000 brands had already signed on to display at the portal.

Soon, viewers can expect to find full product catalogues, special offers, a
store locator and useful downloads.

We hope to give users a choice. Footfalls or eyeballs, he says.

Railway Minister stakes out his own cyber spot

LALU'S CYBERLEAP: The Railway Minister has his own blog at mypopkorn.com.

Bangalore: Lalu, the management guru, is now Lalu, the blogger. The Union
Railway Minister has launched his own corner in cyberspace, where one can read
his views on current 'hot topics'; listen to audio recordings and exchange
comments with him.

Last week Lalu Prasad popped up on MyPopkorn, a new Indian interactive video
'infotainment' portal (
www.mypopkorn.com
) launched by Digital Media Convergence Ltd (DMCL), an initiative of the Essel
group.

In his opening blog, Mr. Prasad shares his personal take on the Gujjar issue.

His views are in posted in English, but you can click to hear his comments in
Hindi. Since then, dozens of readers have uploaded their own views and
contributions,
in both languages. Most of them are addressed to Mr. Prasad in his capacity as
Railway Minister and his blog has subtly morphed into a page where lay Indians
directly address their grievances and reactions to him.

It remains to be seen how interactive the Lalu blog becomes... but clearly he
is not about to rest on the laurels he reaped for his earthy take on 'desi'
management that is already transforming the fuddy duddy image of the railways.

In the days since it went online, MyPopkorn has been getting 2 lakh visitors a
day, for its eclectic video content which ranges from clips on a Vijay Mallya
party to advice on breast cancer for women. Viewers have posted video to
counter Mr. Prasad's views on the Gujjar crisis - so the site seems to be
even-handed
when it comes to such content.

But its core attraction for many viewers might be the TV Webisodes which
encapsulate the typically 30 minute episodes of popular TV serials from Sony,
Star, Zee and other sources into 3-minute clips.

DMCL CEO Eashwar Jha told The Hindu that it has already acquired some 18,000
hours of video content for reprocessing.

Aid for visually-challenged Nalgonda-based IIT topper

Special Correspondent

Rapolu Ratan Kumar

HYDERABAD: The travails of an IIT topper ended on Saturday when the State
government offered to meet the entire expenditure for his professional education
and released Rs. 40,000 towards tuition fee, to begin with.

Rapolu Ratan Kumar (17) is a visually-challenged student from Miryalaguda in
Nalgonda district belonging to a backward community. He secured the first rank
in IIT-JEE 2008 in the physically-challenged category and plans to opt for IIT
Mumbai.

A cheque for Rs. 40,000 was handed over to Ratan by Minister for Disabled
Welfare N. Rajyalakshmi in the presence of his parents and officials, at a press
conference in the Secretariat on Saturday. The government has extended
assistance on learning about Ratan's plight from reports in the media.

Ratan bagged 116th rank in EAMCET and scored 935 out of 1,000 marks in
Intermediate and 561 out of 600 in SSC (Miryalaguda).

Ratan said he suffered from poor vision (50 per cent), a disability which did
not allow him to read books beyond seven hours a day.

Yet, he worked for more than 10 hours a day and completed SSC in Telugu medium.
The department's munificent gesture had come like a bolt from the blue,
he said.

Free coaching

The Minister said the parental upper income limit for reimbursing tuition fee
in case of disabled students had been raised from Rs. 12,000 to Rs one lakh
per annum. She said free coaching would be offered to disabled students
appearing for Group I II services and other competitive exams.

Coming soon, Bamboo PC?

Anand Parthasarathy

Austin, Texas: Small is beautiful, they said in another age. Eco-friendly is
even better these energy-crunch days - it is a mantra seemingly inspiring the
world's leading personal computer makers. One of the biggest sellers - Dell -
is aggressively pursuing a 'green' agenda.

At its main design centre here, Dell engineers showed me an advanced prototype
of an ultra small, extra light PC, which, of the size of a bedside clock-radio,
sits on the table and is encased in shiny, brown bamboo.

Why bamboo? It's light, flexible and strong, and can be given a great finish.

The new PC form, to be launched later this year, promises to cut the size of a
conventional desktop tower by 80 per cent, and reduce power requirement by
some 70 per cent.

Recycled materials will also be used in other, less visible parts.

The media have already named the new product, Bamboo PC.

Dell is not alone in seeing virtue in bamboo. Taiwan-based Asus has an
Eco-Book, laptop encased in laminated bamboo. PlayEngine in the U.K., offers a
bamboo-encased
LCD monitor.

Then again You wrote, you wish to participate in discussions.
What discussions? You are already participating in discussions by

First, observe what is going through in this group and slowly start
sending your opinions/queries by putting appropriate subject lines and

Hope this helps.
